The law though not new but its a two edged sword meant to regulate church activities/influence (politics is partly involved) and check excesses of church leaders vis-à-vis their extravagant lifestyles. On the long run Christianity is the loser because there's a silent move to subjugate christians either some believe it or not. Influential christian leaders who has been hobnobbing with politicians got caught unawares due to their selfishness and greed cos they failed to do the 'needful' before this law eventually became effective. How many times have these soul robbers spoken out against killing of christians in the north? Aside few bold ones who hasn't been 'eating' from aso rock largesse of either pecuniary gains or appointment / elections Until these idiotic influential christians/leaders wake up from their slumber of living large, luxurious bling bling light hugging life styles they wont realise the dangers they pose to their followers who erroneously thought they have shepherds but who are nothing but self serving wolves. And for those christians who will only say God will fight their cause well I like to remind them too that heaven helps those who helped themselves. 1 Like |

Has anybody heard of The Financial Regulatory Council of Nigeria? Did you hear of a court case where the churches lost to the council? Are you aware that other bodies are adhering to the code, banks inclusive? Check out these and then think again..... 1 Like |

Who has the sole responsibility of making laws in Nigeria? Is Buhari now a lawmaker? Why blaming This government for a law that was made during the previous regime and nobody/organization opposed the passage of the law. We should stop giving dog a bad name simply because we want to hang the dog. 1 Like |

I try as much as possible to restrain myself from playing the religious or ethnic card, but events of the past few days calls for concern. If christian leaders are made to submit to the laws of Nigeria as a sovereign nation, how come a good number of Muslims in Nigeria are against the gender equality bill and its provisions? The reason I'm familiar with is that it is against Islam therefore cannot be observed by Muslim faithful. The sultan vehemently spoke against it, and that Muslims will never submit to such law because it is against their believe. This to say the least is an assault on the sovereignty of Nigeria and her capacity to enact laws in order to safeguard the rights of all Nigerians. I honestly think christians are conceding too much, so do the traditionalists. If these our so called men of God have not been greedy in their disposition, perhaps this double standards would not occur. National laws should not be made to target certain groups. Finally, the sovereignty of Nigeria is absolute and comprehensive. Therefore, all who are bound by the territory Nigeria, is expected to submit to and respect the laws of the country, whether they are against our believes, as long as they serve and promote the greater good. Enough of religion induced laws. Religion is suppose to be a private affair, therefore should not be promoted by the state 1 Like |

TheFreeOne: Christianity used to have a God that fought his battles, why do we need an Afolabi to remind us or some other influential christians? The reason why the church grew larger than life was because Nigeria released a generation of unintelligent folks who patronised those warehouses, the same unintelligence that stopped Afolabi from challenging that law in court in 2011 when we had a christian President. The bible made it clear that only levites are authorised to feed from Tithe and these levites must not inherit the church, so what is wrong with the law? In the UK you have no right to invest church donations unlike here yet the likes of Afolabi saw nothing wrong with that. In Germany, the govt collect church tax unlike here yet the Almighty Jehovah didn't fall from heaven, simple rotational church leadership is giving you heart attack, seems like our law makers understand the bible better than the so called god of men. Not to worry, choppings is over!! go get a proper tax paying job. 1 Like |

Why all this sentiments over a corporate governance law. Lets face it can you compare our churches to mosques? Our churches are pure business entities, the branches are profit centres, its all about money, there is no faith based activity there. How many Imams of mosques do you see flying private jets, living in posh mansions going overseas for holiday or surrounding themselves with body guards. How many imams do you see driving in 20 car convoys with police siren blaring? If you re the governor or minister going to a mosque , there is no preferential treatment, you will take off your shoes before you enter mosque. Buhari's action is a wake up call, for the church to go back to what it was commissioned to do to save lost souls with the message of salvation, and not to do cash collection on behalf of pastors. Pastors operate like emperors conning and deceiving members for money. They should start taxing churches ASAP, they re earning way too much cash. 4 Likes |

easy: Dont mind those unintelligent members of the public, the same unintelligence drove them to patronise those ware houses called churches. A christian President signed a religious law then an unintelligent member of the public puts it on Buhari because he is a Muslim. I magine their retarded thought process. This law was the major reason Jonathan was voted against in the SW, they thought Osibanjo will influence it when he gets there while the case was still in court. 1 Like |

GOD BLESS U BIG When was the law establishing the FRCN passed? The problem with people like you and the author of this trash is crass ignorance born out of hatred for the president. Buhari has nothing to to with the law that stipulates that leaders of registered NGO's cannot lead the organisation for more than 20 years, the law was passed before he became president. When Soludo was CBN governor, he pushed for a similar legislation that prohibits managing directors of banks from staying in office for more than 10 years. It is not a big deal or targeted at any religion like myopic minds like you guys want us to believe.
|

Now what is the business of Buhari in this matter? It sounds extremely foolish to even mention Buhari's name in this. Is Buhari even a law maker? And I just have a question for you to answer, when was this law passed into law and under whose administration was the law enacted? I think your answer will go a long way in reducing bigotry and find out critical points before you type nor comment. Before you comment on this thread answer this question 1. which Muslim leader will be affected by this law with the exception of Elzakzaky which the government of Sheik Buhari wants to destroy 2. When did Buhari become the Holy spirit who decides who should lead the church and for how long 3. Does this laws strips Christians of the opportunity to determine how they wish to be led 4. How many imams will yield to any law of succession in their mosques contrary to Qur'anic prescriptions When I told people that Osinbajo is useless when it comes to protecting the church and defending the its rights many did not believe , Southern Kaduna Christians who were massacred over 800 of them in one night is a clear example May God intervene in Nigeria In Jesus Name Weeps
|

Because if we do, you would realised that the law has nothing to do with this administration. And Adeboye calling it quit was his own way of respecting the law. ALTERNATEID: Am surprised by d number of like. Download and read the act before u speak or like. The law passed in 2007 was to create the FRCN not the regulation it self. The FRCN was empowered to make regulation for the corporate bodies and these regulations hv bn under drafting since then and finalized and release in 2016. www.financialreportingcouncil.gov.ng/news-center/frc-releases-draft-national-code-of-corporate-governance/ It is like CBN coming up with regulation for banks in 2016 and we attribute it to when CBN was created. |
