Council of Imams: Arrest CAN President, lawmakers, others for encouraging Kaduna killings

The Kaduna State Council of Imams and Ulama, on Monday called on the Federal Government to arrest and prosecute those who exacerbated the crisis in Southern Kaduna through inflammatory and false statements.

The council made its stand known at a press conference in Kaduna addressed by its Chairman, Sheik Abubakar Babantune and Secretary, Aminu Ibrahim.

It said that the inflammatory utterances of religious and political leaders in the area had led to the “merciless massacre of hundreds of Hausa/Fulani Muslims in the area.”

The council particularly urged the government to arrest and prosecute Sen. Danjuma La’ah, the senator representing the area, and Sunday Marshal-Katung, a member of the House of Representatives.

The Imams and Ulamas also listed Rev. Zacahriah Gado of 19 DCC Fellowship, CAN President Samson Ayokunle, CAN Secretary General Musa Asake, John Danfulani, and Solomon Musa, SOKAPU President, for their alleged roles in encouraging killings in the area.

The council, citing several newspaper publications, accused them of whipping up sentiments through falsehood and encouraging residents to take up arms against each other.

They blamed the government for failing to punish perpetrators of past crises in the area, who were indicted but allowed to go scot-free.

The council cited such people to include Zamani Lekwot and five others, who were found guilty and sentenced to death by Justice Okigbo tribunal over the Zangon Kataf crises.

“The white paper of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry into Kaduna State Religious Disturbances of 2001 recommended for further investigation and reprimand of Elder Saídu Dogo, Archbishop P.Y.Jatau, Archbishop B.A. Achigili.

“The white paper on the report of the Federal Government Investigation Panel on the 2011 Election Violence and Civil Disturbances recommended among others for the Police to investigate a History Teacher that slaughtered the father of his student in her presence.”

The council noted that the crisi had been exacerbated by the mischievous utterances of such political and religious leaders in the area, and said government must put a stop to it.

“The council is in support of the Federal and Kaduna State Governments in taking any measure legally, to deal with any individual or group of persons,” found promoting further disturbances in the area.

It called for sustained prayers by all Nigerians of good will to bring the crisis to an end and ensure permanent peace and economic prosperity.

Where in the world do you arrest victims rather than the perpetrators of crime?
The war on Christianity has truly started.

Typical hausa Muslim tactic,
Blame the victims or claim that it's a lie
This is the same way the started spreading rumours in the North, that Boko Haram was created by igbos and majority of it fighters are igbos
This guys will never own up to their crimes or failures

Now it happens again...

Kill their people and persecute their leaders.. Turkey's style before full blown islamization of the Zoo..

I am just happy that Yoruba Christians are watching this show while still playing there 'it doesn't matter' card.

This whole shit is getting worst and instead of the dullard to find a way to curb the whole menance, he'll rather remain silent, which in turn is affecting the whole saga. If things continues the way it's going, seriously it will get to a stage where the FG won't have the power to curb it easily.

Somebody should please sound it loud and clear to the deaf dullard in Aso-rock to do something before it gets out of hand. angry

southern kaduna Christians and Shiite Muslims voted for apc,let them enjoy their chain~ji.

You think these Southern Kaduna killings just started now under Buhari? It's been happening since 1991 when Babangida was in power. It happened several times under Jonathan too. It's a long standing and ongoing problem and blaming APC and Buhari will not solve it.

i know much about the southern kaduna killings but why vote in two well known Fulani supremists?lga bosses in gwari Christian areas are now given to Muslims and when the locals protest, they open fire on them. they're partly responsible for their own problems.

It's so easy to lie down on your bed and dish out comments thoughtlessly. I bet you do not know what it cost to be a Christian in the northern Nigeria.

If that is the case then they definitely need to vote in local govt leaders that will protect their interests. It's a political problem for sure but it's also a human rights issue. We all need to have some compassion for our fellow human beings regardless of tribe or religion.

To the muslim ulamaa and muslim brothers and sisters, your demand for the arrest of the leadership of Christian Association of Nigeria(CAN) is not strange, Persecution of Christian has been an age-long issue, the BIBLE tells us there is a TIME and SEASON for all things, christians in Nigeria must persevere. It is well in Jesus name. Amen!

i served in the north when buhar supporters we're killing corps members, stayed back to work and teach before relocating gradually to the east late last year, still owns landed property there, i was there when entire igbo families were wiped out on the Christmas day bombing at a Catholic church in suleja.so my dear,i know what it takes to be a Christian in the north. the average northern Christian deserves what he's getting.

Fulani herdsmen will break Nigeria, and the silence of the president on the issue will not help matters.
A case scenario, if a cattle rustler attack a fulani herdsman in southern Kaduna, and he ran away with the cattle to zamfara, the fulani herdsman mobilize his fellow fulani from cameroun or chad with ak47 goes to southern kaduna in the name if revenge starts killing the innocent in the area, is that just? the people of southern kaduna would have stormed the fulani herds man village and destroy it too, but the problem is fulanis are minorities scattered in different quaters in different hausa and others cities /town and villages, they rarely have their own town but Stay with others, the irony is that they are often the elite of those town, villages and cities. Infact 1/2 of all the governors in the North are fulanis.

They should be regulated and pay tax
