Let's Halt Ajimobi Feeding Frenzy. by gbollybakare: 7:46pm On Jan 15, 2017
The video clip of the exchange between the Oyo governor and the protesting students of LAUTECH now gone viral is one part of a running long script. The encounter does no justice to both the governor and the student. First the governor because in the last 4 months no one has done more to make sure funds are sourced to ensure the university reopen. He was in fact the first of the governors to announce in October that despite a lean purse he has his own share of the contribution ready. Osun insisted it had no funds. Thus the school remained shut. In September still concerned about the fate of the university Ajimobi quietly set up a 6-man fact finding team to get to the root of the LAUTECH problem with a view to forestalling similar long shut out. It was this proactive effort that gave fillip to the renewed effort to reopen the university. Thus, the recent announcement that both Oyo and osun states have agreed to pull together 500 million. Ajimobi promised that by February 1st or thereabouts the university will be open.
Thus if there was any of the two governors who worked relentlessly behind the scene to resolve the LAUTECH crisis and return the students to school, it was Gov. Ajimobi. Of course not all of his efforts can be revealed but he sure was key to the resolution. Therefore to want to judge him by the single video or incident is both unfair and unacceptable in a civilized society.
Yes, staying home for over 8 months is both harrowing and frustrating for the students and their parents it should be no excuse for brazen rudeness. Their should be no subsidy for bad behavior for both the students and the leaders.
The students protest was wrongly timed and their unruly posture uncalled for. If their unruliness and protests could provide the funds to open the school that would have happened since. To behave the way they did within the period when their problem was being addressed frontally and the reopening of the school weeks away shows lack of tact and a bit of lack of discipline.
For the defenders of the students, pray why do we think they must always be right ? In our days as student unionists things were done differently. Not in this manner. We know that it's easy for a protest to be infiltrated. We know that some of the student protesters also tend to go overboard. For Gods sake, if you take your case or protest to the door steps of a governor, the least you can do is to lay your case and give the other side a chance to speak. It's important to hear each other out. The Governor lost his cool. But who wouldn't ? I am also wondering what was it that the governor said that has earned him so much attack and abuse ? Are we saying his right to speak to the students as a father and elder should be taken away because the students are Angry ? The governor does not deserve the volume of Attacks he is getting simply for using a language many feel he should not use. Perhaps If Ajimobi had gotten down on his feet to beg the students or simply locked himself up in his office without coming out to see the protesters these attackers and the students would have being happier. May be. Just may be.
Does it mean the students are always right and should always have their rants and unruly behavior excused when it occurs ? This pack mentality that we have is worrisome. An Internet or social media war against the governor will do the students more harm than good. The right of the students to be angry and frustrated should not be a license to unleash verbal attacks on the governor. It is transferred aggression. And in most cases it is counter productive. There is no winner or looser here. Let the tempers cool. And let the gates of LAUTECH be swung open. And let Governor Ajimobi be. This is my tuppence.

Nonsense. Nigeria has gone to the dogs, the language he used shows exactly what he thinks of the people he leads.

And op you should do as the ftc said. The governor should even be begging.

Op! You are nothing but a paid hack. Why must anyone place unnecessary emphasis on niceties and that burning desire to be 'respected' in the face of crises? How can supppsed rudeness be at the forefront and a governor expects students to come n beg him to look into the 8-month closure of s school? Rather than address core issues and give concrete assurance on the basis of whatever action has been taken, he calls himself 'constituted authority' that must be slavishly obeyed even when he wilfully fails in his constitutional duties! Even threatened one by asking the police to pick him up!

If the op feels there is no excuse for the supposedly unruly behaviour of the students, is there any tenable excuse for denying students their entitlements to basic education for even one month not to talk of 8 months and counting? Let leaders do their jobs diligently and stop looking for outward representation of respect which has absolutely nothing to do with issues of governance!
