We know that panic and anxiety can touch any of us at any point in our lives, some people are more susceptible than others, it has been reported that if one of your parents have suffered from one of these disorders then you have a higher chance of also suffering, I am not sure about that one, but is it possible to ever understand why any of us can suffer from these disorders.

These disorders can happen at any time in our lives, but the development of them have been connected with adolescence or young adults, the conclusion of this is that adolescents and young adults experience a lot of change in their lives in a relatively small amount of time, they have to do things that they have never done before and have possibly not been prepared for, leaving school and coping with the real world is an experience that can cause most young people anxiety. Think of all the things they have to deal with, getting a job and the interview process, earning money to start supporting themselves, even socializing in bars and clubs, these are all things, and there are many more that they have not had to deal with before.

So these things and this transition period can put a lot of stress and pressure on a young person, but they are not the only ones who suffer, it is just recognized that this part of a persons life can be a vulnerable time. How do we begin to understand why this pressure can develop into a disorder. We have to look at the underlying feelings and thoughts that are behind these disorders, what are we feeling and what are we thinking every time we get so anxious about something that a panic attack is threatening our whole being. Think about it, we may have thoughts of being scared to do with what it is that is putting so much pressure on us and so what do we feel, fear that is what we feel.

Fear is the underlying thoughts and feelings that we experience when we are in a certain situation or performing a certain task that we are naturally not happy with, we fear that situation or task and this is what makes our system react with a racing heart, shortness of breath, sweating and any of the other symptoms that flood our bodies during this fear. So if fear is our problem, then we have to understand why we fear that certain situation of task.

Let's say we feared public speaking, why would we fear getting up in front of say a 100 people and addressing them. May be we think they will laugh at us, they might not understand what we are saying, we will get embarrassed, we will not be able to get our words out and they might ask us questions. There are many reasons why we would fear this and through therapy or training we could overcome this fear and actually enjoy public speaking. But forced into doing public speaking when we fear it so much is going to play havoc with our human system. We are going to be overcome with fear and this alone is going to disable any form of speaking performance, we are more likely to stammer, mumble or forget what we are supposed to being saying because we are so struck by fear.

It does not have to be a major thing like public speaking that sets of the fear factor, after all that is a major one and there are lots of people that have never had to do it, but fear it all the same. There are some that get the same fear from speaking on the telephone and imagine if you feared that and had to take a job in telesales, your life would be hell. Doing something we do not like doing can make us very anxious and in extreme cases bring on a panic attack, this can then develop into a disorder over time and it all stems from fear, behind that fear lies a reason.

This reason can be found and dealt with through therapy and it is important to think about getting help through therapy to understand why we fear certain things in our life and it is especially important if what we fear is something that we have to do on a regular basis. It can stem from something that has happened to us in our past, but therapy can help us to find out the reason and once we know the real reason why we are struck by fear in certain situations then we can work at changing how we think about that situation and heal the fear. If we know and under stand the reason, then we can work to change the outcome.
