F.C. Sevilla ended Real Madrid’s 40-match unbeaten run as they defeated the European Champions 2-1 in an exciting La Liga match on Sunday.

The game had looked like another victorious one for Real Madrid until the closing stages when F.C. Sevilla suddenly came to life to steal the three points in a thrilling manner.

Both teams were playing against each other for the second time in four days after the first tie had ended in a thrilling 3-3 draw at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

Real Madrid F.C. had taken the lead earlier through Cristiano Ronaldo midway through the second period with a coolly taken penalty – his 21st goal in just 13 appearances against Sevilla.

The build-up to this fixture saw the clubs involved in a spat surrounding Sevilla fans’ treatment of Sergio Ramos during the Copa clash, and the home fans will have taken delight in the Madrid captain heading past his own goalkeeper to level matters.
