AFRICA’s richest man and foremost entrepreneur, Aliko Dangote, is setting up a $100 million vehicle assembly plant in Lagos. He is partnering a leading Chinese Company, National Heavy Duty Truck Group Company Limited, SINOTRUCK to produce several thousand of trucks used mainly for transport business from its newly promoted assembly plant at Ikeja, Lagos.
The decision to go into the truck assembly plant project was informed by the need to conserve forex in view of the current economic recession that is facing the country. The deal which worth $100 million which is expected to have an assembly plant that will produce 10,000 trucks per year was signed in May 2014 in China, making it the eighth of Shandong, China (SINOTRUK), to be built abroad. The plant is 60 per cent owned by Dangote Group, trading under Dangote Industries Limited, leaving SINOTRUK with the remaining 40 per cent equity stake. According to Chiejina, the project had taken off and that when fully operational, the nation would be spared the huge forex spent in the importation of the heavy-duty vehicles.

God bless Aliko Dangote. With all his huge investment in Lagos, I have never seen him gathering all the Northerners in Lagos together and declaring that they will determine who will be the Governor of Lagos or crying up and down that he developed Lagos or boasting that he control the economy of Lagos unlike some people who have never seen N3 million in their lives and still be claiming to own (abi na control?) the economy of Lagos.
