About two years ago, South Africans went on rampage, beating up fellow Africans. While it was said that they were targetting Zimbabweans, in reality Africans from other countries were also affected. They were at it again during the month of November. They only stopped because of the fear that many people may not go to South Africa for the World Cup.

But the threat is still there. I was in South Africa just the other day, and the talk on the ground is that there will be further attacks after the World Cup. People being targetted include professionals and those who have invested in South Africa, but they are Africans.

The ANC came to power with the support of the Labour movement, so not much is expected from those quarters. But the people in South Agfrica are investors, and are filling a gap and rendering service not being provided by others. There are Kenyans in Johanneesbeg, Somalis in Cape Town, Nigerians in Durban, and many others. They are all targets.

Why did we support South Africans against the apartheid regime if all we get are these attacks? And who will be the loser anyway, if professionals and investors leave South Africa?

as i understand, its the black south Africans that are in the fore front of these xenophobic attacks, theses are people that cried out to Africa and the world to save them from appertide. now post appertide, majority of them are still living like second class citizens in their own country and no one is to blame but they themselves and their own ignorance.
they keep complaining the foreigners are taking away all their employment opportunities while they slave and toil in the mines. have they asked themselves that; if they had anything to offer, maybe they wont be losing jobs to their African counterparts?
you need to visit the Oboma forum and see how much these people have in their souls especially towards Nigerians and Zimbabweans.

well, then president Thabo Mbeki was quite non-nonchalant about the attacks initially. you can imagine people going on a violent rampage in your country and your president didn't even address the situation until days later after being criticized by world leaders. so in a way, their government is somehow endorsing the xenophobic attacks. thats why S.A is known as one of the most violent countries in the world.

There are many South Africans in other African countries. Maybe we should give them a dose of their own medicine
