According to Roberts, since there is no guarantee there would be a ruling on the disputed election by January 18, the day marking the end of Jammeh’s tenure as president, he would have to resign to obey the provisions of the Gambian constitution. Meanwhile, Nigerian warships are closing in on Banjul, the capital of the landlocked West African nation, to force Jammeh to respect the wishes of the people.
