Special Education is a good course and I think Special Educators are in good demand all over the world, especially in developed countries. Nigeria is already waking up to the realities about this as some big schools have teachers who are dedicated to special needs of certain children/students. A normal/regular teacher may not be able to fit into the role of a special education teacher as a special educator is trained to address certain challenges with special kids/people.

Areas in focus may include but not limited to:
Gifted and Talented
Mentally Challenged
Intellectually Challenged
Physically Challenged(this seems to be common and probably what many people are used to) which includes education for the blind, deaf, deaf and dumb, etc.
Slow learners
"Late maturers"
"Early Maturers"
and so on. These could be either from birth or as a result of incidents or accidents.
As a special educator, you are specially and adequately equiped and informed to be able to render necessary helps to the pupils under your tutorlage. You will probably need to specialise in one area and help the pupils/student/child adjust to normal life or flow with life irrespective of physical, mental, psychological or emotional predicament.
I am very much of the opinion that very very soon, and I mean it these special educators would be in high demand in Nigeria as our society is waking up to the realisation of the fact that physically, mentally or otherwise challenged people can actually live a normal life. The international society is also making effort to integrate and incorporate them into normal social, political and everyday life. For example, we sports competion for the physically challenged (para olympics) and the mentally challenged (special olympics).

You may find the course very interesting especially if you are someone who enjoys helping people or motivating people.
It has its own challenges although.(remember that there is no work without its peculiar challenges). You will need empathy, patience, tolerance, dedication/commitment, faith, hope, integrity, focus and more as your personal and proffessional skills, attributes, characteristics, etc.

If you already have traces of these and many more, then I assure you that you can eventually enjoy being a special educator as you will have joy and satisfaction bigg time when you see the outcome of you labour turning out positively.

I hope I have been able to educate you about the course.
