Independence is best .
The immediate gains of colonialism is tempting, use of the almighty pounds in trade, access to the European market etc, but with good leadership and better economic strategy an independent nation will thrive... Singapore comes to mind.
Hong Kong is acting out of desperation and the need to be backed by another super power.

1) how many black presidents in africa , since the independence boom in 1960s till now? could any one of them bring any african country to be any bit advance? totally put together is less than a viceroy with a 10 years' tenure , at least and at best a viceroy regards honor to his queen, instead of money from the colony.
