Leave us alone, Unilorin ASUU tells national body


Following the directive by the National body of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) urging members to boycott Unilorin, the local ASUU in the university has reacted to the sanction which it describes as laughable.
The Unilorin ASUU wondered why the union is after the university, saying the university is not interested in National ASUU’s kind of unionism.
Assistant Secretary of ASUU Unilorin, Dr. Alex Akanmu in a reaction to the sanction meted out to the university by the union said the Unilorin ‘s legacy of constructive unionism has been a nightmare to ASUU leadership.
His reaction was published below:

ASUU NEC SANCTIONS: CONFIRMATION OF OLA ROTIMI’S WORK titled “OUR HUSBAND HAS GONE MAD AGAIN”

We have read again and again ASUU NEC rehearsed and renewed sanctions.
It is rather unfortunate that academics can descend so low to continually harass University of Ilorin all because they want the Union/University hijacked for their “accredited representative” of garage tendencies..Even the least intelligent person should ask: why is ASUU NEC so interested in Unilorin? Simply, our legacy and resolve on constructive unionism and dialogue instead of unreasonable strike is spoiling market for these elements who for years crippled university education in Nigeria.
For the avoidance of doubt, these elements should be asked why reintegration processes were frustrated severally? Even in animals’ kingdom, if a leader is captured, will they remain without a leader for years and on return of the captured, he will return to rule?
The argument of the check off due is equally baseless and it is not correct. We have administrative charge of less than 0.5% of basic salary with records of purposeful leadership and meaningful investments touching lives compared to ASUU NEC’s 2.5% regular deductions from member universities dedicated to fuelling crisis, drinking, purposeless trips, inciting releases and advertorials as paper-tiggers!
What is also the sense behind asking other universities to stop relating with Unilorin or have their doors closed? The last time I checked, I am not aware ASUU NEC has such power over public institutions and scholars who are expected to cross- fertilise ideas (Not on destructive unionism anyway)! I also do not know until now that, journal outlets (institution or association based) are being managed by ASUU NEC on whose paper to accept or not and from which institution people should collaborate!!Laughable!! The intruder goofed again..
It is however not surprising that area boys branded as academics covering their intellectual laziness in the name of Union activists are in charge of NEC!!! Other than Union activities, many of these elements have no contributions to knowledge.
Reading through the ASUU NEC’s renewed sanctions and sequence of events about Unilorin, many should be able to see that it is beyond unionism for NEC actors but perpetual empty harassment of the University and forceful take over for the few that belong to their anarchist school of thought. No retreat, No surrender…We are committed to reintegration, not hijack!
