Events and Entertainment: One Mistake Most Nigerian Events Managers Make by DoxaDigital(m): 10:40am On Jan 24, 2017
Some Nigerian event planners, both great and small may continue to wonder in oblivion for a long time while their contemporaries keep getting the high-profile jobs; thus, leaving them out. It’s not magic, neither is it rocket science. Just pay attention to these simple tips and see what I am getting at.

Any event company, without a goal or a mission statement will always aim at nothing. Wait a minute! You may even have a very impressive goal and a mission statement and if it is not realistic or you don’t make effort to reach it, both categories will end up aiming at nothing. Likewise, most clients who come to you have goals and objectives that they want to achieve with or from an event. Do you make efforts to get these details? These details will help you set up your own deliverables linking it with your own goal or mission statement and thus making the event what it should be, with your signature on it

EVENT MONITORING AND EVALUATION

Though the term Monitoring and Evaluation may seem big, please don’t be confused, because it’s just a combination of very simple but carefully selected steps customized by you or your event company. This basically ensures you monitor and evaluate all the processes involved in servicing your clients. This will help you have the best outing for the events and other future events.
According to an online source, monitoring and evaluation involves a process set up to improve performance and achieve results. It is also described as a process used to assess outputs, outcomes and impacts of any projects, in this case, any event. It is also a link between the present, past and future. In specific terms, monitoring and evaluation in events management will help to define reasons for hosting an event, ascertain the extent the events have succeeded in meeting its objectives, etc. This will ultimately help you see where you are and where you are expected to be:

5 SIMPLE BUT VITAL TIPS
keyys get into the aim.
Events’ monitoring and evaluation begins right from the beginning of an event planning and not at the end as most people believe. At this point, you may want to ask questions like what does my client want from this event, what impact does my client what to create, who should be the target audience, what is their preferred settings, etc. with this questions, your client can tell that you know what you are doing. At this point you may ask yourself, how do I now achieve the events goal through my company’s mission statement? A consistent aligning of your event’s company’s goal with that of your client gives you a unique result that others may want to copy.

Break down the events into measurable parts
According to an article authored by Event juice, part of an event evaluation process is to break the events down into smaller manageable and measurable segments and each should be assigned to members of the events team. This will enable you to measure at any point, the impact, outcomes and outputs against the set objectives of your client. More so, you can troubleshoot and solve any crisis that may arise during the event.

Interrogate a persona
A lot of Nigerian event planners may be neglecting this aspect because it looks like it’s a waste of time. But it has shown to be a very good move to examine how the events is doing. Get or sample the sincere opinion of two or more attendees of the events in accordance with the parts that have already been broken down and manned by some members of your team. It helps you able to know what went well or wrong for a guest or events. Your strengths, weaknesses and possible areas of improvement will also be highlighted

Ask for feedback from your client
After each event, instead of just pursuing the balance of your payment which is also important, priority must be given to getting feedback from your clients. Make them understand that the feedback is as valuable to you as the money. When you do this, it means you are already looking forward to hosting the next event from them which means a lot to you and your brand. It also means you are creating a communication link that is valuable to you and to your clients and then trust is earned and built. When clients trust you, they already trust your judgment.

Correct the anomalies
The difference between you and other event planners lies in the ability to effect the corrections you have learnt from the various feedback and interviews. It makes you better, more professional and better experienced. This equip you with the skill of knowing and understanding better ways of pleasing your clients and guests.
