It was three years after Anna Stoehr was born in 1900 that the Wright Brothers piloted the first powered airplane. The supercentenarian, who is the oldest Minnesotan and one of the oldest living people in the world, has witnessed tremendous changes, from World Wars to the Great Depression and, after women’s suffrage, the right to vote.
As she nears her 114th birthday on Oct. 15, Stoehr is learning to use an iPad, where she enjoys FaceTime video chats and viewing photographs. Because she uses a hearing aid, she feels that “it’s easier to communicate using an iPad because you can see people’s faces and understand them more clearly.”
Many of those chats are with her 85-year-old son Harlan, who says, “My mother was always curious about things.”
Born of German immigrant parents as the second of 11 children, at birth Stoehr was frail and not expected to live. She thrived on farms in Iowa, Wisconsin, South Dakota and Minnesota by staying active and independent.
After her husband’s death in 1998, she lived alone on their farm until age 112 ½, when she moved to a Plainview, Minnesota, independent living facility, where she still lights up a room with conversation. The best modern convenience? “Electricity. Because it gave us lights and water in the house.” On voting for presidents: “Only one of my men got elected: Dwight Eisenhower.”

The idea for the iPad came about when Harlan upgraded from a flip phone to a smartphone so he could access his email and text his grandchildren. Speaking with Joseph Ramirez from authorized Verizon Wireless retailer Wireless Zone, he mentioned his mother was nearly 114 and lived more than two hours away.
Harlan shared a story of Stoehr talking to her grandson and his family via Skype when they were overseas right from the comfort of her kitchen table. Coupled with the fact that Harlan’s wife Marlene had an iPad, Ramirez suggested trialing the device with Stoehr.
“I asked her if she would be interested in an iPad,” Harlan relates. “She asked, ‘What’s that? Could I take pictures with it?”
Wireless Zone agreed to loan Stoehr the iPad and provide free service and training leading up to her next birthday. “She wants to hurry and learn how to call out so she needn’t wait for people to call in,” says Harlan.
Soon, the supercentenarian will celebrate her 114th birthday during two celebrations with more than 150 relatives and friends, and a cake with the correct number of candles – an annual tradition since she turned 98. Her three surviving children will be there, as well as 12 of her 25 grandchildren.

The biggest news today in Nigeria is the allegation of false declaration of assets by the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) against the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki. The alleged crime was committed in 2003 and consequently, the Code of Conduct Bureau has dragged Saraki before the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT). Saraki’s inability or refusal to appear on Friday the 18th of September 2015 before the tribunal led to a bench warrant (arrest) issued on him. However, upon his appearance, on Tuesday the 22nd of September 2015, Saraki was granted bail on self-recognition by the tribunal chairman, Mr Danladi Umar, after he pleaded not guilty to the 13 charges. The case has been adjourned till October 21, 22 and 23, 2015 for accelerated hearing.

As far as I am concerned, false declaration of assets is concrete corruption and anyone found guilty of this crime should be dealt with. Having pleaded “not guilty”, the onus is now on Senate President Bukola Saraki to prove and convince the tribunal and the public, that indeed he made no false declaration of assets in 2003 as an elected Governor of Kwara State. Many writers in Nigeria have written on this matter, especially those in support of Bukola Saraki and those against. I am not here to take sides, but to express my displeasure on the actions and activities of the Lagos State Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Joe Igbokwe.

Igbokwe who also parades himself as an activist, has thrown caution to the wind and wittingly usurped the functions of the National Publicity Secretary of APC, Mr. Lai Mohammed by issuing a press release (article) on behalf of the party and casting stones on the Senate President, even when the matter is before the Code of Conduct Tribunal. Igbokwe did not end there; he also in his outburst threw hard stones at the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremmadu.

There are three inherent dangers in the chemistry of wheat that make it a classic destroyer of health. I call them the downsides of wheat.

Wheat contains gluten – a protein that causes inflammation, a systemic process that has harmful effects across all the organ systems in the body including the brain, heart, joints, eyes and digestive tract. As a matter of fact, inflammation does not only precede all degenerative diseases like diabetes, cancer, stroke, glaucoma, arthritis and Parkinson’s disease, but also fuels their insidious progression. A review paper in the New England Journal of Medicine listed 55 diseases that can be caused by eating gluten-containing foods. The diseases include osteoporosis, anaemia, cancer, canker sores, fatigue, rheumatoid arthritis and multiple sclerosis. The paper also linked gluten to many psychiatric and neurological diseases including depression, schizophrenia, dementia, nerve damage, epilepsy and autism. The paper concluded that there are 120 or more diseases associated with eating foods that contain gluten. Dr. Joseph A. Murray, MD states that he is surprised how often gluten affects the brain.

Another study by Dr .J. Robert Cade, MD of the University of Florida showed that people with autism and schizophrenia have high level of peptides in their urine. These peptides, according to Dr. Cade, come from casein (protein in milk and other dairy products) and gliadin and gluten in wheat, barley, oats and rye.

The Presidency has declared a N30 million as the total asset without any foreign account, oil well or any registered company prior to assuming office on May 29th, 2015.
Buhari’s vice equally made bare of ownership of domiciliary account with a total of $900,000 and a naira account with a balance of N94 million, again prior to his new role.
The declaration was made public by the Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, after the President and V.P. Osibanjo submitted their documents to the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB).
Reacting to the document submitted, Mr. Shehu considered the value represented by the President as evidence that he “has indeed been living an austere and Spartan lifestyle, contrary to what many might expect of a former Head of State of Nigeria and one who has held a number of top government positions, such as governor, Minister of petroleum and the head of the Petroleum Development Trust Fund (PTDF)”.
Although the documents are undergoing vetting process, Mr. Shehu pointed out that besides the declared N30 million, the President also declared ownership of five homes (two homes in Kaduna, one each in Kano, Daura and in Abuja) and two mud houses. One of the mud houses being an inheritance from an older sister and the second from his late father, 360naija later learned.
Further disclosure from the Presidency sites ownership of two undeveloped plot of land, one in Kano and the other in Port Harcourt.”In addition to the homes in Daura, he has farms, an orchard and a ranch, said Mr. Shehu. “The documents also showed that the retired General uses a number of cars, two of which he bought from his savings and the others supplied to him by the federal government in his capacity as former Head of State. Osinbajo’s asset declaration includes his 4-bedroom residence at Victoria Garden City, Lagos and a 3-bedroom flat at 2 Mosley Road, Ikoyi. The Vice President also has a 2-bedroom flat at the popular Redemption Camp along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and a 2-bedroom mortgaged property in Bedford, England. Moscow National Security Agency whistleblower Edward Snowden, has made a new controversial claim yesterday, saying that he possessed some classified information proving that Osama Bin Laden is still alive.

Snowden, who lives as a fugitive in Russia after leaking documents about the NSA’s surveillance programs has made some previously unreported allegations about the famous terrorist, Osama Bin Laden, during an interview with the Moscow Tribune.

According to him, not only is Bin Laden still alive, but he is living a lavish lifestyle in the Bahamas, thanks to regular payments from the CIA.

“I have documents showing that Bin Laden is still on the CIA’s payroll,” claims Edward Snowden. “He is still receiving more than $100,000 a month, which are being transferred through some front businesses and organizations, directly to his Nassau bank account. I am not certain where he is now, but in 2013, he was living quietly in his villa with five of his wives and many children.”

Mr. Snowden says the CIA orchestrated the fake death of the former leader of Al Qaeda, while he was actually transported with his family in an undisclosed location in the Bahamas.

President Barack Obama’s Kenyan grandmother, known as Mama Sarah, vowed Friday to cook a traditional meal for her grandson when he visits the East African nation, the birthplace of his father, later this month.

“With regards to what food I will prepare for Barack on his visit, I will prepare all the traditional food available,” she said, speaking her Luo language through a translator on a visit to Nairobi.

She tempted him with the offer of dishes including fish, chicken and maize porridge.

“It does not matter whether Barack is a senator or a president,” she added. “He will have what I have prepared for him.” Mama Sarah was the third wife of US president’s paternal grandfather, Hussein Onyango Obama, and lives in the small village of Kogelo in western Kenya which is home to a number of the president’s relatives.

She said she had asked him to travel to Kogelo “to pay respect to his father’s grave”, but it was not clear if Obama was scheduled to travel outside the capital Nairobi. Obama’s late father was born in Kogelo and grew up there before travelling abroad to study, where he met Obama’s American mother in Hawaii. Although Mama Sarah is not a blood relative, Obama calls her “granny” and has visited her in the past. It will be Obama’s fourth visit to Africa since becoming US president, but his first to Kenya since taking office in 2009.

A presidential visit to Kenya had been put on ice while President Uhuru Kenyatta faced charges of crimes against humanity for his role in 2007-2008 post-election violence. The International CriminalCourt has since suspended that prosecution, citing a lack of evidence and Kenya’s failure to cooperate. After Kenya, Obama then travels on to neighbouring Ethiopia, where he will become the first sitting American leader to visit. Godfrey Baguma – dubbed “Uganda’s Ugliest Man” – has become a father for the eighth time.

The 47-year-old suffers from a rare and as yet undiagnosed medical condition.

Mr Baguma married wife Kate Namanda, 30, in 2013 and the couple have just welcomed a new baby girl into their family.

In 2002, he entered a contest to find the African nation’s ugliest man due to financial difficulties.

Mr Baguma has had six children with his wife and also has two kids from a previous marriage.

Speaking of how the pair fell in love he said: “I stayed with her for four years before her people knew where she was.

“I didn’t want them to see me until we had a child because they would definitely advise her to leave me.
“She left me when she was six months pregnant but I think she later accepted her fate because she came back two months later.

“I told her that I didn’t choose to look the way I do and that if she feels I am a burden, she is free to leave me.”

Mr Baguma is known as Sebabi – which means “ugliest of them all” – and is a former cobbler.

If you’re asking about my personal opinion, there is no greater sin in terms of wrongly using God’s name than women who use it during sex. That is one of the filthiest, most derogatory and sinful uses of the Lord’s name I can think of. If it were up to me, I would put every single woman or girl who does that in jail. This is not a theoretical question but a dilemma affecting a handful of wannabe nations that, despite having their own governments, flags and anthems, are not recognized as sovereign states by the international community. Sometimes, these independence hopefuls comprise an ethnic minority at odds with the majority population.

Don’t go feeling sorry for all of them. The latest to join their ranks is the Islamic State, which is wreaking havoc and destruction in Iraq and Syria. Only global jihadists have so far recognized it. Everyone else just

The definition of state seems straightforward. According to the 1933 Montevideo Convention: “The state as a person of international law should possess the following qualifications: (a) a permanent population; (b) a defined territory; (c) government; and (d) capacity to enter into relations with the other states.” That last one is the trickiest.

Take the case of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus on the northern side of the Mediterranean island. It declared its independence in 1983 after the Turkish invasion. Today Moldovans consider it their “autonomous territorial unit,” despite having its own government and even currency — the Transnistrian ruble.

Likewise, the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic claims to have been sovereign since 1992, but Azerbaijan considers it part of its territory. This unpronounceable nation is accepted only by its buddies Abkhazia, South Ossetia and Transnistria. These four have actually established an umbrella organization, the Community for Democracy and Rights of Nations, something of a mutual comfort society.

All right, it might not start until 2016, these things can be awfully hard to predict exactly. However, surprising as it may seem, one way or another the end of ISIS is in sight, and it’s all resting securely in the hands of Jesus, peace be upon him. There has been a great deal of mainstream media attention lately, both video and print, regarding the fact that ISIS is recruiting based on the promise that their fighters are actually participating in the rapidly approaching end of the world.

At the same time, mainstream orthodox Muslim websites are already predicting Jesus’ return as early as 2022, starting an Islamic prophetic clock set to run over the next seven years, in the purportedly rapidly approaching run-up to Armageddon.

The good news is that even if they’re wrong, those claims ISIS is making about their own role in Islamic end-time prophecy spell their own certain end. Because even though ISIS claims they’re fighting on the side of the angels, it’s obvious they’re not, and it should become progressively clearer to even the most misguided Jihadi that either ISIS is wrong about Armageddon or that they’re on the wrong side, because of all the things Muslims know are supposed to happen.

And if it turns out they’re right, then we can all rest assured that by the time the dust has finally settled there will be no question left about who’s side they are really on, because it’s all going to be about Jesus.

Frankly, although I’d like to believe the orthodox predictions are correct, I think they’re premature, and that ISIS is crazy-stupid. We had a very informative event up here in Calgary last month (January) hosted by the US State Department, where Dr. Michael Ryan of the Middle East Institute shared his valuable insights into ISIS’ recruiting strategy. We learned that ISIS actually complains in their internal communiqués about their difficulty recruiting informed Muslims, because “Islam makes them tend towards life and their community.” They find more success attracting Muslims they call “losers” – ignorant about their Islamic faith and marginalised by drugs, alcoholism, crime, mental illness or recent life-changing events. That’s not the sort of Muslim you would expect to know much about the religion, or to make good life – or end-of-life – choices either. Given that, I think we can discount their validity of their “good-guy” claims, even despite their despicable and deplorable actions which should in themselves be sufficient.

But even if we considered that they might be right about the impending apocalypse, what sort of events should the next few years bring according to confirmed Islamic eschatology?

First, the Euphrates River should soon be uncovering a mountain of gold, with the Arabian Peninsula becoming filled with meadows and rivers.
Then, some Muslims throughout the world will be inexplicably transformed into apes and pigs because of their attempts to make lawful some rather significant major sins. Personally, I think that one’s aimed squarely at al Qaeda, Boko Haram, Al Shabab and ISIS and their associates, and their rather liberal views regarding murder, tumult, oppression and slavery.

Then shortly thereafter you can expect the coming of the Mahdi, his uncovering of the Ark of the Covenant and his evangelism of a significant proportion of the world’s Jews, who will wake up and realise that they shouldn’t be ignoring and allowing Israel’s oppressing Muslims and Christians in Palestine.

Then, you will see the coming of al-Masih ad-Dajjal – the false Messiah or anti-Christ – the descent of ‘Isa ibn Maryam (’alayhis-salam) – that’s Jesus – and his defeat of the anti-Christ followed by the coming of Ya’juj and Ma’juj – Gog and Magog – followed by:
The rising of the sun from the west
The appearance of the Beast of the Earth
The wind that will take the souls of the believers
The ruin of al-Madinah – Medina –
The destruction of the Ka’bah – Mecca – by the Abyssinians
And the fire that will come from the Yemen to gather the people in Sham before the coming of Judgement Day.
I think you’ll all have to admit, that’s a lot to pack into the next seven years and it’s going to be hard to miss.

And with that seven year clock running, if it all doesn’t start happening soon, you can expect to see ISIS supporters starting to slip away.

But if it does come true, what sort of a man is the Mahdi supposed to be? Muslim prophecies are actually frighteningly clear, and do seem to predict the current state of affairs in the Levant, hold out hope for the rest of us and promise an end to ISIS.

And what about Jesus? Even though Muslims and Christians disagree about what he is, with Christians claiming he’s God and Muslims declaring he’s not, everybody agrees about what sort of a person he was, is and will be: a man who fulfilled the Jewish Covenant and taught benevolent compassion to his followers, his example remaining a source of hope and inspiration to all humankind for the rest of time.

The southern African country is finally mopping up what remains of its worthless currency by offering to swap bank deposits or cash for as little as one U.S. dollar per 35 quadrillion Zimbabwean dollars.

Here is what that looks like in digits:

$1 = Z$35,000,000,000,000,000

Zimbabwe abandoned its money in 2009 after hyperinflation destroyed its value. Most transactions since have been conducted in U.S. dollars or South African rand.

But a small number of Zimbabwe dollar notes with virtually no value remain in circulation and the central bank is now trying to take them out of the system. Zimbabweans have until the end of September to exchange them.

“The decommissioning of the Z$ has been pending and long outstanding since 2009,” the bank said in a statement.
Zimbabwe spiraled into deep economic crisis after President Robert Mugabe introduced a radical policy of land distribution in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Facing chronic shortages of basic commodities, the central bank kept printing money to fund budget deficits, ultimately causing prices to go crazy.

At the peak of the crisis, prices were doubling every 24 hours. Cato Institute economists estimate monthly inflation hit 7.9 billion percent in 2008. There are no official numbers — the authorities gave up trying to keep track.

Unemployment soared and public services collapsed. According to the World Bank, the economy shrank by nearly 18% in 2008.
The Zimbabwe dollar was swiftly replaced by foreign currencies, first unofficially, then as part of government efforts to curb inflation and revive the economy. Within a year, the country had returned to growth. Zimbabwe’s GDP rose by 3.2% in 2014, but growth is expected to slow this year.

Local people are worried and many have lost interest in following anything relating to economy, its calculations and projections. Zimbabwean government really have a lot of work to do economically to uplift the life of its citizens.

A Former Governor of Lagos State and the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu has surprisingly criticized President Muhammadu Buhari, saying he betrayed the party.

This is in the wake of events that led to the emergence of Ex-Kwara State Governor Bukola Saraki as the President of the Eighth Senate and the return of Chief Ike Ekweremadu as the Deputy Senate President for a third term.

Tinubu, who on Wednesday through the Nation Newspaper, in an article titled “The untold story of PDP’s coup behind Saraki’s Senate Presidency” pointed an accusing finger at President Buhari for displaying neutrality in who emerges as the Senate President without due regard to the fate of the party.

According to Tinubu; “Despite the choice of National Assembly leaders being a mixture of party politics and legislative duty, the aloofness, or the perceived neutrality of the President allowed the ‘fight’ within APC to fester until it went out of hand.”

He explained that the invitation of the APC lawmakers to the International Conference Centre, ICC, was said to be at the behest of the President; shockingly, the President did not show up.

“The bewildered 51 APC Senators, who were waiting endlessly for the President in ICC, watched the proceeding of the inaugural session from a nearby TV box.

“Before the 51 APC Senators could race down the five-kilometre stretch from ICC to the Assembly Complex, Saraki had emerged as an unopposed candidate.

“To add insult to injury, President Muhammadu Buhari neither showed up nor sent apology to the stranded Senators at the ICC.

“They were left at the mercy of troops from the Brigade of Guards, who had already been deployed in the centre ahead of the supposed arrival of the President.
“Unfortunately, there was no communication between his office and the 51 APC Senators who heeded his invitation.

“It was around 10.35am, we saw that the inaugural session was already on and Saraki had been elected. If we were to be defeated, it should have been done on the floor.”

In defence of President Buhari, a highly-placed source, said: “The President had actually made up his mind to be at the ICC but there were feelers that some associates and strategists prevailed on him not to dabble in the selection of the Assembly leadership because he will portray himself as an inconsistent leader having promised not to interfere in the internal affairs of the Legislature.

“Probably acting a pro-Saraki’s script, these associates/strategists made the President to realise that his last-minute intervention would amount to dancing to the tune of one man: Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

“Even if President Buhari is not interested in a second term, he owes the APC a duty to keep the party intact.” Tinubu therefore stressed that the coup in the National Assembly by PDP was a litmus test for Buhari’s leadership prowess.

Sepp Blatter’s resignation has sparked a number of questions, including what happens to the 2018 and 2022 World Cups

Why has Sepp Blatter resigned?

Just four days after putting himself forward for re-election as president of Fifa despite the multiple arrests and US Department of Justice indictment of senior officials two days earlier, Blatter’s resignation is a shock. The closest he came in his resignation speech to citing a reason was to say his re-election was “not supported by everybody”; a characteristically thick-skinned understatement, given 73 votes against him and the intense hostility towards him from many European football countries, including England’s Football Association.

Blatter will have been told by senior Fifa insiders, including Domenico Scala, the Swiss businessman effectively in charge of reform, that the US indictments have damaged Fifa’s credibility beyond any of the many previous scandals. Whether there is a more direct reason for Blatter stepping down, such as the spectre of the investigations focusing on him more personally, remains to be seen.

What will happen to the presidency of Fifa?

For the first time since 1998, football’s world governing body can look for a president beyond Blatter, who has led Fifa to dramatic sporting, territorial and financial expansion, and unprecedented corruption scandals.

The promise at the news conference was that this will lead to fundamental reform, but the election will be open to any candidate putting themselves forward, and the outcome is necessarily uncertain. As Blatter’s bitterly contested re-election showed, Fifa is a deeply divided organisation, in which Europe’s rich and powerful football nations can often be viewed as arrogant and entitled by the football associations of many poorer countries. Winning an election on a more unified mandate and being able to impose real reform are Herculean tasks, made more difficult by the scandals and bitterness of the last week.

Where does this leave the planned World Cups of 2018 and 2022 in Russia and Qatar?
Greg Dyke, the English FA chairman, said immediately that Blatter’s resignation means the votes for the hosts of these two World Cups will be looked at more closely now and Qatar will be feeling uncomfortable. The stance of both countries has always been that they did not do or pay anything illicit to any of the then-Fifa executive committee members who voted, several of whom have now been proven guilty or stand accused of corruption.

On the same day as seven Fifa officials were arrested in Zurich last week, the Swiss attorney general announced a new investigation into the award of the 2018 and 2022 World Cups to Russia and Qatar. Data and documents stored in computers at Fifa were seized, as well as “relevant bank documents at various financial institutes in Switzerland”.

All 10 executive committee members who voted on the 2018 and 2022 World Cups who were in Zurich last week are to be questioned, the attorney general said, “as persons providing information”, not as suspects.

The attorney general’s statement was explicit that “irregularities” and “unjust enrichment” are suspected in the allocation of the tournaments to Russia and Qatar, and suspicions that money was laundered through Swiss bank accounts.

A Kenyan lawyer has offered US president Barack Obama 50 cows and other assorted livestock in exchange for his 16-year old daughter Malia’s hand in marriage, a report said Tuesday.
Felix Kiprono said he was willing to pay 50 cows, 70 sheep and 30 goats in order to fulfil his dream of marrying the first daughter.

“I got interested in her in 2008,” Kiprono said, in an interview with The Nairobian newspaper.
At that time President Obama was running for office for the first time and Malia was a 10-year-old.
“As a matter of fact, I haven’t dated anyone since and promise to be faithful to her. I have shared this with my family and they are willing to help me raise the bride price,” he said.
Kiprono said he intended to put his offer of marriage to Obama and hopes the president will bring his daughter with him when he makes his first presidential visit to Kenya, the country where his father was born, in July.

“I am currently drafting a letter to Obama asking him to please have Malia accompany him for this trip. I hope the embassy will pass the letter to him,” he said.

“People might say I am after the family’s money, which is not the case. My love is real,” he insisted.
The young lawyer, whose age was not revealed, said he had already planned his proposal, which would be made on a hill near his rural village, and the wedding at which champagne would be shunned in favour of a traditional sour milk called “mursik”.
Kiprono said that as a couple he and the young Obama would lead “a simple life”.

“I will teach Malia how to milk a cow, cook ugali (maize porridge) and prepare mursik like any other Kalenjin woman,” he said.

After an unprecedented showing at the polls on Friday, the Republic of Ireland in a referendum favored a same-sex marriage by popular vote. The official result was unveiled late Saturday where 1,201,607 residents voted in favor while 734,300 voted against it. Such landmark referendum makes the Catholic nation the first country to legalize same-sex marriage by popular vote.

The “yes” vote marks a socio-cultural shift in the country with strong conservative Catholic persuasion, which until 1990, homosexuality was treated as an abomination and a crime.The Prime Minister of Ireland, Enda Kenny, in his remarks on the referendum disclosed that the “yes” vote for same-sex marriage “disclosed who we are–a generous, compassionate, bold and joyful people.”
“In Ireland, we’re known as a nation of story tellers..and today, the people have told quite some story. This is a magical, moving moment,” Deputy Prime Minister Joan Burton said.
Gay and Lesbian couples who have enjoyed somewhat from “civil partnership” since 2010 can now formalize their union in civil marriage. Couples thronged the streets of Dublin in celebratory mood, kissing and soaking in the fresh air offered by the “yes” vote on the referendum.

Speculation leading to the run-up was that the opposition to the vote may have been understated by the media leaving Conservatives hopeful of a favorable outcome. However, when the count began in earnest on Saturday, the outcome was predictable. Out of a total of 43 constituencies, only one failed to pass the vote.

The details of the bizarre incident have only just come to light despite reportedly taking place in 2000 at a hospital run by Ram Rahim in India. India’s Central Bureau of Investigation has reportedly accused Ram Rahim of grievous bodily harm and he is under investigation. He has previously been questioned over the murder of an investigative journalist in 2002 and has also been accused of sexual assault by female followers but has never been charged.

Navkiran Singh, who is the lawyer for Hans Raj Chauhan, the only castration victim so far to come forward, said his client and other victims believed they would become social outcasts if they refused to perform the “operation” demanded of them by Ram Rahim.

“They were told that only those who get castrated will be able to meet God,” said Navkiran, in a report in the Daily Mail.

Ram Rahim, 47, dubbed the “guru in bling”, is head of the socio-political organisation Dera Sacha Sauda and is estimated to be worth £26m.
The guru stars in a spectacular new movie, Messenger of God, in which he appears to walk on air, tear tree trunks in half and perform other miracles. Though 157,000 people are thought to have attended the film’s premiere in Gurgaon, near Delhi, according to the Sydney Morning Herald, the revelations have caused sales of tickets for the movie to dwindle dramatically.
