The public culture and acceptance of these yellow, wornout buses combine to demonstrate how low we fell as a people. And how mediocre and defeatist we became as a people.
I know with this move by Ambode, vultures will start gathering to feast on the plan.

Governor Ambode we people of Ikorodu are appreciating your efforts in the area of transportion through the provision of the new blue BRT buses. However, I can see that Primero company managing these buses are sabotaging the Governor's efforts because of the lateness of these buses to their assigned bus stops especially Ikorodu and Agric during early morning rushing hours. It appears the management of Primero and their people at these bus stops are deriving certain enjoyments with a lot of ques that makes some one to be on the que for between 45mins and one hour without a single bus coming to pick commuters. I called their customers care desk last week to complain but there was no improvement in their services. If Lagos State Government fails to properly monitor them, the new ones to be rolled out to face out the Danfos will also follow what Primero is doing presently. They do not value time because they are not time conscious.

If you are one of those fools who keep saying 'e go beta' you are part of this country's problem. Your father and maybe granddad said the same thing. I swear your children and grandkids will say the same thing. Nigerians enjoy suffering. For how long will my people Continue to suffer. I want to take the future of this country into my hand. If I die so be it.

Nigerians are afraid of risk. A society that fears risk will remain the same nobody wants to stick his neck out. It is the consequences that nigerians fear. What will happen to me? What would happen to my kids? Just take a look at tu face. Do you know why he cancelled that protest? RISK.
That's why parents invest so much in their kids. Their children are investment. They are the Insurance Company their parents believe in. How can you take risk When you are the hope of your family.
When I get sick who would take care of me? From my vantage point what nigeria needs is a godfather. Not every body is lucky to have a rich father or uncle. What if we Form an organisation called a brotherhood. It will collect monthly dues from nigeria to provide them with security against risk. Protect them from government harassment. A member of the brotherhood cant be intimidated. You see before somebody does you harm they would want to know your backup. If you belong to a strong organisation, policemen will be cautious of how they handle you.
These days of Expensive medical service. The organisation can help fund Your treatment. People lose so much fortune trying to get treatment.
It can even help to sponsor some talented nigerian to achieve glory for nigeria and the organisation. Your pain is their pain. Help YOUTHS with smart business ideas. It will help unite nigerians against the government. Provide work for graduates upon graduation. Give scholarship to bright students.
It will pick up from where our drunk nigeria has stopped. It will be a strong opposition to the government. Sponsor YOUTHS to run for political office.

In fact I just remembered one of my office neighbours said An academy should be put inplace to train these danfo drivers and conductors and they must wear uniforms.
Any danfo driver and conductor who do not attend the academy and is not certified fit by the academy must be arrested on duty grin
I was just laughing, and I was just imagining agbero driver and agbero conductor in school going for lectures with uniforms on how to behave with bus and passengers.. Lol

Mehn I said that day! The kingdom of God has truly arrived. And they will behave civil and organized! Wow shocked
And agberos too will be trained to be civil and kind in collecting Owo mi da grin
With another separate uniforms.
And I told him that owners of such academies will. Make so much money oo grin with the government inclusive!
Na mehn! That's serious business trategy.. We need to file this proposal to Ambode grin grin

three:
There are ENORMOUS opportunities for Public Transportation in Lagos (simply because of the numbers viz economies of scale)

The Yellow buses should indeed be phased out but...

1. The replacements must be Ergonomically sound and ultra safe (no side oriented seats etc).

2. Lagos needs a special kind of vehicle that can access inner city roads (the kinds of roads that Okadas and Keke Napeps ply, why? Cos then we can get rid of those - They are NOT safe).

3. This vehicle should be able to accommodate an optimum number of seats and standing places.

4. If possible propulsion should be via hybrid fuels.

5. The buses do not need conductors.

6. They can be operated via franchises that are integrated into a cross platform infrastructure - One should be able to use a 'touch card' on any vehicle across the state. The drivers will be guaranteed a minimum monthly income.

7. Opportunities will then exist for online real time travel information - you can stand at the Bus Stop and know when the next bus is due...

etc etc etc

PS

With regard to 'economies of scale' and on a totally unrelated topic I seem to recall a former governor stating that Houses cannot be 'Affordable' because there is no 'Affordable' cement or 'Affordable' Iron Rods - guess he has never heard of 'Economies of scale' let alone comprehend the concept.
Your recommendations show u don't live in Lagos. You sound more like someone in London. If you stay in Lagos u will know dis Is mere noise Ambode is making.Yellow buses convey a lot of people because they cut corners and can change route if passengers are availabe for elsehere other than their route. Government buses and bureucracy won't let it operate even at optimum level due to hirachy of operations. And our government lacks maintanance culture.

Research was made about 12 years ago which suggested that Danfo's were 'fast' for the very reasons you adduced (can cut out of routes arbitrarily) however nothing says one cannot have a blend in strategies.

What exactly is wrong with Danfo's? if you say nothing then stop reading.

If you say something, then what is or what are those things. Are they real issues? Can they be ameliorated or do they need to be wiped out totally?

Where do you board buses in Lagos? How far away are they from your abode? Do you know what the recommended distance is from one's house to the Bus Stop is (ie Bus catchment area)

Why can't the buses come closer?

How many danfo's are there in Lagos? are they regulated? How and by whom? (that they have license plates and route numbers provides a hint of the answer.

Fine, Ambode usually talks first and then thinks later (like most APC/AC/ACN operatives) and infact the traffic light solution on the lekki ajah axis as well as the Bus lay-bys along the Oworonshoki-Alapere axis will have moderate impacts on traffic flow but that is not to say that Danfo's cannot be improved on or done away with.

Lol, this wonderful Governor wants to do over sabi. Replace them and watch them replace you in 2019. Governor Ambode needs to be realistic on this one. Danfos and okadas for now remain a necessary evil that must be tolerated until we have a Lagos State government that is smart in every ramification. Right now, we still have a Lagos State government that is very stupid in many aspects of governance, like transportation. Does the BRT ply inner cities? No! Is the BRT always available? No...to mention a few. The current BRT operational system is flawed in many aspects. In fact, it is so mismanaged or disorganized that even the danfos operational system is arguably more efficient. The current BRT system is such that ticketing queues are usually disorderly with no predefined structure of sales and arrangement - ticketers sell as they like, boarding rules are inconsistent and no predefined ETA; passengers are usually stranded at bus stops, standing for long periods of time under the sun - no waiting seats and inadequate shade; buses are over-crowded because standing is allowed and standing limits are always exceeded because there are not enough BRT buses and/or its management's greed to maximize profits at the people's expense; tickets are non-transferable - a ticket sold by the same LAMATA company via their field agents that is bought at one location can't be used at another location even though the fare has equal amount, which shows how high the level of organizational inefficiency is. BRT buses are largely inaccessible because you can only find them on major highways, which is the route made for them. But the thing is, not everyone lives along the major highways. There are several other identifiable flaws with the BRT system, and I think the governor will do well to fix these problems, instead of creating more bigger problems while trying to solve smaller problems unintelligently. Honestly, I think if APC continues like this with its anti-poor-masses system of governance, 2019 will be a total disaster for them during the elections, and they will not only lose the presidency but might lose the southwest bloc too, which would be very unfortunate. I like the futuristic goals, the illustrious modernized thinking, but whatever the case, there must be a pragmatic practical approach to doing all these things. Some ideas are only perfect on paper but not viable in practice, so there must be a balance between idealism and realism if significant progress is to be achieved. So the governor really needs to think this one through because his job is at stake. If you arbitrarily ban danfos and okadas without a proper efficiently effective replacement in place, and it backfires on the lagos poor-masses society, then he should forget re-election in 2019 as governor. He should take a cue from Buhari, because it will take the best of the bests miracle for him to win re-election in 2019 with the way things are going.

Make I hear word, that Bus has saved more life than State and Federal Govt in combine. I've neighbors that leave their cars at home to join these buses just because of traffic and cutting corners.

So u expect me to queue for 45min in Osodi waiting for that BRT ?

The population is enormous, if Ambode releases new transport plan less than the number of the Yellow buses then it's a problem.

Creating a mega city with an average man displaced from his danfo work is off to me.
