Studies have proved that 1 in 7 teenagers who start using cannabis will develop cannabis-use disorder. There is also evidence that heavy use of cannabis can lead to psychosis. The minimum age to purchase Pot that would come into effect in some provinces are Alberta: 18, BC: 21, Quebec: 19, Sask: 21. I don't have information about other provinces.

A friend of mine shared her experience when she was a student, she called one of those 'free for ladies' ads and they told her point blank that they don't need her to pay that all she will need to do is grant them sexual favors. So yes it's not a no strings attached deal most times.

Interesting! I havent even come across such a freebie ad yet in my case, but its definitely worth being on the look out for such. For some reason, the landlords ive met so far don't seem too keen on renting out to me, a newbie in Canada. Its just unexpected, the reactions ive gotten so far on this but I believe it will work out and very well too. Thanks

Who said they would not admit them? The universities? If that's the case, they must have provided reasons for their stance. An admission refusal at the doctoral level could be for a variety of reasons. A major one being if one does not possess a thesis or research based Masters degree. Some schools would then recommend a second Masters by research degree as a prerequisite to admission into the doctorate program. However, before deciding on a course of action, it may behoove them to shop around and see if they can still find takers as different universities have different requirements and varying degrees of leniency.

For doctoral programs, admission processes at various universities will differ however, they usually follow the same rough guidelines below:
1.) Identify a school; read extensively about the school to ensure it is a good fit for you.
2.) Study their admission requirements to ensure your qualifications are a total or close match.
3.) Develop a research proposal or question and approach the supervisors (lecturers who have delegated supervisory roles) whose research interests are in alignment with your research proposal. Secure a supervisor who is willing to walk the often arduous road that is academia at the doctoral level.
4.) Apply for admission on the basis that you meet the stated requirements and have obtained a research supervisor at the university. Also, having published papers or works in respected journals will immensely help your case along.
5.) Wait for the admission decision.

On webpages of schools, most professors would mention their areas of interest and contact details. Some would even give a brief summary of the current research they are working on. Prospective doctoral students approach lots of professor to maximize their chances. It is very similar to searching for a job since this positions are competitive. Some would not reply emails, some would not take students from outside the country, some prefer students from their home countries (they won't mention this though), some would gladly accept the student if they like the applicant's previous academic work and grades etc.

Also, please tell your friend not to mention the bolded in his/her correspondence with potential supervisors...it will raise a red flag that he/she could also quit, if granted admission, when things get rough (it usually does at some point during a doctoral program). Apart from that, I think they'll be fine. In addition to @Salford1's contribution above, they only need to look through the websites of schools they are interested in (Canada doesn't have a lot, so that reduces the volume of work), and contact potential supervisors with their draft proposal (approx 3000-4000 words, max 5000words should be sufficient at this point as they might have to still revise it when they find an interested supervisor). In my experience, I believe the proposal is the real work (Literature review and methodology in particular)...most professors wouldn't reject a well-written proposal on a good topic, if they think the student has great potential.

@maziude would also be able to shed more light as it relates to Canada specifically. I think he's a doctoral student in Ottawa.

Ppl sit beside me all the time even when i have my bag on the empty seat beside me, they have asked if I could move it so they can sit. However, ppl stand all the time. I choose to stand a lot in transit even when the train is empty or bus. On the flip side, I have opted to stand up when 2 persons who speak the same language are beside me and are in conversation a bit loudly mostly because I feel uncomfortable when that happens.
