A well informed mind would be expressionless reading the daffy optimism expressed in the glaringly political statement from the Organisers of the forthcoming Enugu Trade fair who expressed confidence in the attendance of President Buhari to the well esteemed annual commercial event. Aside the discontentment the people in the state harbor for this ineffective administration championed by the ailing President, the basis to have Buhari in such an event does not in any way appeal to reason. In fact, irrationality meets the grounds for inviting the grand economist and director of an unstable and dying economy in the person of Buhari to such an event of great commercial intensity.

Given the benefit of the doubt to the impossibility that Buhari would attend the ceremony, it is commonsensical to ask, for what reason? What does the attendance of Buhari mean to the organizers, other stakeholders involved and the event itself?

For a fact, We, Nigerians are cultured in garnishing events with big names and stirring much noise with their presence. We are hypocritically observant in paying tributes and indoctrinated into the ritual of idolization. Our politicization of matters of far reaching indispensability to our well-being is yet a bane of meaningful progress. This is why a state Governor would build a borehole and invite the President to Commission it. A local Government chairman would construct or renovate a classroom and invite the governor to commission.
