Yar’Adua: Nigeria’s Stability Hinged on Rotation, Says Northern Union

Barely 24 hours after the North-West Zone of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) described those asking President Umaru Musa Yar’ Adua to resign on account of his ill health as mischief makers hell bent on causing confusion with the sole intention of dragging the integrity of the Federal Government to disrepute, the Northern Union led by Dr. Olusola Saraki yesterday joined the debate over succession should President Umaru Yar’Adua resign from office
It warned that the stability of Nigeria as a nation is hinged on power rotation between the North and the South.
In a statement signed by the Chairman of the group, Chief Patrick Adaba, it warned that much as it believes that constitutionalism is without prejudice to the survival of Nigeria, “however, we believe equally that certain peculiarities of any nation also play a vital role in bringing about amity and peaceful coexistence among the peoples of that nation.”
According to the Northern Union , “It should be understood by those who love this country that one of such peculiarities upon which the unity and stability of our country is hinged is power rotation between the North and the South.“
“This is an extra constitutional arrangement to deal with Nigeria’s peculiarities of pluralism, a practice which is not peculiar to Nigeria,” the statement said.
The Northern Union also said that it has noted with dismay what it called “the irresponsible calls to arms by some ethnic jingoists, irredentist and saboteurs as a solution to the current problem”, stating further, “While do not lack the capacity to ethnicize the problem, as is being promoted in some quarters, we think that the situation at hand is one that calls for sobriety.”
It urged those beating the drums of wars to remember that “the wounds of the 1966 civil war are still fresh in our mind and for a long time remained a sour point in our national psyche. We must do all within us to avoid a repeat of that experience.”
On the health condition of President Yar’Adua, the Northern Union condemned the call for his resignation, describing such calls as “unnecessary and views such calls as hasty and inimical to peace, unity and continued stability of our country.”

Why is it "beating the drums of war" to ask that a president who has been distracted from his duty, resign to allow him focus on his health and for someone without distractions to take over? angry
How is being patriotic "beating the drums of war"? angry

What manner of desperation is this? What kind of country is this!!!

The earlier Nigerians realise that every Nigerian has equal rights to the presidency, the better.

As long as the north want someone to replace Yar adua if he resign. The only reason we southerner agree to this is if the north agree the yorubas, edo, delta and bayelsa joining the republic of Benin.  If the North agree to that term. Then Jonathan would resign and step aside.  If they do not agree. Then Jonathan should not resign.

let me see how that would sound in thier hears, I can hear them screaming.

For some strange reason, the Northern cabal seems to be paralysed with fear. The question is, why?
It isn't that they have ever done anything for the country or even for the North, which remains the poorest region of the country. So why? Is it oil?

Those in the northern pdp will think about the bigger picture and let Goodluck step up because come 2015 The north will not be with be PDP, leaving only the SE and SS excluding edo.
and all that rotational trash will cease.

I mean common sense - what sensible person actually thinks that the north/NW will except that their next president will emerge in the next 40-60 years

its laughable grin

Northerners will rather have free and fair elections
In a free and fair election Atiku, Buhari and even Bukola Saraki would sweep Nigeria in votes, that is why they are calling for electoral reform.  I mean ANPP AC LB and the current decamping from PDP by northerners while the SE and SS are joining the PDP only foretells the future of this party

Where have these fools been since independence when ruling Nigeria was a preserve of the Kaduna mafia?

Tippy Top:

Where have these fools been since independence when ruling Nigeria was a preserve of the Kaduna mafia?

The closeness of Abuja, infighting, greed, stack lack of development, sharia etc are killing off what remains of the once powerful Kaduna mafia. That is why, the cabal can make such a pronouncement under the aegis of Northern Union (itself, a breakaway from the Arewa Consultative Forum).
Traditionally, such a proclamation would have been made from Kaduna (it was probably made from Saraki's sitting room).

Quite clearly, these people see 140 million Nigerians as their slaves. Let them declare war, let us see where that will lead. Bastards.
