FBS:@FBS Way to go. I will wait and see the next match. Really, I was more concerned about the lack of fight in the team yesterday when we were 1-2 down. I have never seen such before. DK is right Why are people querying the removal of Mikel. He did nothing in 79 minutes. Mikel doesn't play for Coventry, Hull or Plymouth. He plays for CHELSEA. No excuses from him, he should be controlling the midfield when he plays for Naija. That said,Obasi was by far the best player of the night He was willing to take on the Egyptians and interpreted his role pretty well. Well, the match is gone, we lost 1-3. Let's see the next game. |

Nija love to run themselves down. If it were to be Egypt that was a goal ahead in the first place and lost to Nija 3 to 1. You guys would have been saying something different. Wait until we crash out of the competition, then we can start yabbing. Alot of yall would be coward of your own words if they should at least WIN THE CUP. |

HNIC:Yes Bruv I'm glad some of us agree that it is early days and if we expect to see changes then we should expect someone will implement them. We cannot be hitting the same spot and expect a different reaction. ALL them boys need to WAKE UP! No one is excluded. The fire and discipline in them went off after 30 mins of play. Not good enough IMO. As regards Mikel, I agree to disagree . He is no longer the Mikel of 2005 (And this is my personal and only beef with JM. . .not many may agree though). He clearly needs to step up but of the 3 DMs yesterday he was the "best" IMO. Subbing him is not really the issue but for Kanu? haba. . . What was Yak doing on the pitch? He was clearly out of shape! Etuhu nko? Yusuf nko? Obasi was on fire yesterday. Not just the goal. He kept tracking back to help the RB. Lovely display. |

To all nigerians, u have the right to b angry from ur team but i advise not to insult ur players ,ur coach! u must support them till the end! nigeria is not bad but they need some sort of confident! don't forget that we lost our ticket to wc at the last knouk out match with all sorts of terrorism! it wasn't afootball game in sudan, so we still support our team pharaoh till the end! u must do as we did! greetings to all my nigerian brothers from egypt! |

This shows the ineptitude of this bleeping group of fat bellied men called nigeria coaches. Why pick players not fit to play when we have good players waiting in Kano Pillars and Enyimba. No complains, just like Amodu said "That is the best we can have for now" An injured players with a bunch of bench warmers in European clubs. The question is: Who selected Martins-Answer=Amodu. |

Incredible I saw it coming, I knew they will perfom in that manner. Where are the Amodu's supporters. Can anyone imagine a coach(Amodu) opened his mouth to say in a live TV coverage that I quote "He is not worry about African Cup of Nation" he is only concern about world is that not maddness? Well I think his Godfather Sani Lulu could see it now that incompetency has no place for pretency the truth will show up for sure. We have seen it now. |

EGYMOODY:Is this a sick joke or what? Are you talking about the current players or the class of 1994? Just support your Pharaohs and leave us alone with our team. What is there to cheer about a foreign based team that couldn't beat a home based Pharaoh team? Have we forgotten that the local league Amodu calls bastardized produced a Kano Pillars who beat Ahly to a semi final ticket in the CAF champions league? Or that Ahly and Zamalek currently form the bulk of the team we saw yesterday and in the past 3 Nations Cup? Face it! The Nigerian team is not good enough. Fickle legged players. Shio! |

And so the CHICKENS, ( sorry, the Eagles ) have come home to roost with a dismal performance and result. I think we're too optimistic in Nigeria else we shouldn't have been surprised at this kind of result from a team of players who couldn't care less (except for a few of them), an inept technical crew with a mediocre, incompetent coach as well as an FA that is generally into football for the money alone and by all means possible. Sorry, before I forget, throw in with that combination a runaway ( ?brain-damaged) president. It might not be the best to judge a competition from the first match but is there honestly anything Amodu can do beyond what he has in his brain? Qualifying for the world-cup was a real miracle and not from Amodu's expertise. Or can the players suddenly jettison their laissez-faire, partying and womanizing like-no-tomorrow attitude and make a real team similar to the final qualifier in Kenya? For now let's do "siddon look". And hope Benin and Mozambique won't use us to shine too like the Pharoahs who last beat us in the AFCON in 1963 but were given an opportunity yesterday. However, if we're playing Argentina first in the world cup and we did like this in our first AFCON game against an average Egyptian team, we can already know what to expect. |

ochukoccna:Fight ke? Nah bros. I'm just tired of repeating the same thing over and over again. But well it's all good. Let us all hope they play better against Benin and in subsequent matches. |

Notice I haven't really commented on our team's performance yesterday? I'm still reserving my comments till after our match against Benin Republic. Exclusive: Martins Quits Angola http://africanfootball.mtnfootball.com/live/content.php?Item_ID=26982 January 13, 2009 Wolfsburg striker Obafemi Martins has left the Nigerian squad to see his specialist in Europe after he complained of persistent pain on his recently operated shin Eagles media officer, Peterside Idah, confirmed the departure of the striker Wednesday morning. "Martins has gone back to Europe to see his specialist as regards the problem with his shin. He has complained of pains on his right shin, which the experts said should not be the case after he underwent surgery recently," Idah told MTNFootball. Martins did not take part in Wednesday morning's shake-up in at the training ground in Benguela, which is a walking distance from the Eagles Hotel Praia Morena. The top team official insisted that Martins will be back in time for Saturday's make-or-mar Group C match against Benin here in Benguela. Idah confirmed that Locomotiv Moscow striker Osaze Odemwingie has also resumed full training with the team after an infection. |

waledoy:Maybe but I think it's has more to do with the attitude of the players than the coach. |
Re: African Nations Cup: Egypt Vs Nigeria - (3-1) by naso2(m): 1:53pm On Jan 13, 2010 |
At times like this I try to be as objective as I can , yes we lost and the response after we went 1-2 down was not inspiring . I however think we however need to see the positives too. If the team had maintained the tempo, guile and general team chemistry with which they started the match in the first half , I would not have felt bad even if the scoreline ended worse. My grouse however is with Amodu and his clumsy match reading style. The Egyptians adjusted well in the second half but we couldnt. I do not think Taiwo had a bad game, however the left back was one area the egyptians exploited expecially when TT overlaped. Do I blame TT? certainly not. It all comes down to team tactics. When a team plays wing backs like what TT was doing yesterday then the DMs ETUHU AND AYILA (Mikel did not play as a DM yesterday) have to properly cover for him, but that was lacking in the second half. Yakubu had no business staying even 60mins on that pitch ystday. Mikel should have been retained as that would have made KANU more dangerous. There was nobody to bring the ball upfront to the opponents danger area after Mikel left. Kanu was now forced to come get the ball at areas that would require him to make some runs, and as expected even in his best days he had problems with speed, so he was easily checked. I still do not believe in Amodu anyway, a coach like him will enter the Argentina WC match with a damage control mentality and that will be detrimental in every way. It still beats my imagination that Amodu in his "wisdom" was inches away from dropping our best player on the nite (Obasi). Why was ADELEYE dropped? |

the last time they beat us was 1963. Amodu make them to break the jinx. we will be disgrace in the worldcup |

why cant SE adjust to any situations? once dr plan failed to work dat is d end I think not all caoch plan works but when things not workin for them they will need to adjust at least to not make d situation worst. Amodu is useless |

Really, I was more concerned about the lack of fight in the team yesterday when we were 1-2 down. Thank you HNIC. Nigerians would never cease to amaze me. A player who did nothing in 79 minutes and was removed for not being up to the task yet we blame the coach for that. Essien is a DM and have you seen him play for Ghana? In the last nations cup vs Nigeria after Mensah copped a red card, Essien assumed the CB and DM role and even offered a lot going forward, Thats what we call a CHELSEA player. Not the side pass back pass Mikel. No one disagrees that the 2 Bundesliga players were the best on the field yesterday. Thank God |
