olaniyi0:The concept of him using such nasal pronunciation pattern is to add flare to the story. In the first place, ORANMIYAN or his son SHANGO aren't a new story to YORUBA people although if you haven't heard of the story of a legendary KING in YORUBA HISTORY called SHANGO isn't a crime. And if you have, still doesn't matter. It isn't easy doing what the writer is doing to bring suspense and intrigue to a story some or many are familiar with. Just sit back, relax and enjoy the writer's version of SHANGO OLUKOSO 2 Likes 2 Shares |

Chapter 3 ***Many Years Later*** Screams, clanging of woods, whistles of arrows being shot from bows and reverberating sounds of it hitting the targets board was all that kept on re-echoing. They all continued with different trainings, some with Sword wielding, some physical combat but at a moment they all paused as they sighted an uncommon and unexpected occurrence, one of the boys that had been practicing shooting of arrows had demanded for a pot of fire, they all stared at him as he set the arrow into the bow, pulled the arrow back a little, then dipped the tip of the arrow into the pot of fire, the fire then blazed on the tip of the arrow, he pulled the arrow stronger with his grip harder on it, the moment he released it, the blazing arrow moved sporadically and hit the target board precisely on the bull's eye and also faster than normal, few seconds after hitting the target, the board got consumed by the fire from the arrow. A very loud round of applause followed suit, people jeered the young lad that took the shot, that was the first they have seen of that kind of act and it was quite a sight to behold. The jeers lasted only but for a while as it occurred that two out of the lads that were practising sword wielding with a piece of wood were now getting so intense, the skills and bravery exhibited by the both of them was a rare one, their skills and techniques were more of the same which made it easier for one to guess the others next move and also launch a counter attack that also endup being envisaged and calculated by the other. All eyes now swerved to the two lads engaging in the fight that has now pretty much advanced for just an ordinary training session and much too intense for amateur warriors like them. The fight when on and on, different moves and far perfect skills were exhibited, people watched on and enjoyed every minute of it, after a while, the two lads became weak but they still didn't give in to each other. One of them retreated back a bit from the other and they both kept on rotating round in a circular motion, suddenly one of them made the move, ran swiftly, jumped high and plunged at the other with his wood held high, the other had less time to calculate the attack as that was not a very regular move that his opponent made, inspite of the few time he had, he still managed to slide under the attacker before the wood could be launched on him and almost immediately he somersaulted backwards to counter the move made, the guy that made the jump move saw the counter move just in time as he quickly jumped up over the the guy that attacked with the back flip move. The last move was made so perfectly and beautifully that another rounds of applause rocked the training ground, that was the moment that the two lads noticed that all eyes had been on them, they stayed transfixed as they enjoyed the jeers. "Your fathers will be so proud of you boys" A man stepped down from where he had been seating all day observing the lads that were practising "Especially you Jakuta, the Emperor will be so happy with your vast knowledge of swordmanship and you too Bonka, that was a very interesting match between the both of you, it was perfect in every sense of the word perfect" The man held them both by the shoulders for a while before walking towards the one that shot the arrow "Thimi, the one with the blazing arrow" He said as he also tapped him on the shoulder to indicate how impressed he was. Few moments later, they had all been discharged from the day's training. It was indeed a rare training day as all the lads went home well motivated and in high spirit, most of them couldn't wait for the next training day to come. Jakuta, Bonka and Thimi all left the training ground together with a large number guards following behind them closely. The palace guards were there and also Thimi and Bonka's guards too as they were both the sons of the two Head Generals of the Empire. Their fathers had served Horanmiyan the Emperor all their lives, together with him they had been conquerors in wars. Bonka father was the best swordsman in his time, Thimi's father was a very good archer too, the best in all of the Empire at that. So it seems both lads have grown to inherit their father's skills, and with the pace at which they were growing skilfully, it's very possible for them to do better than their fathers. Jakuta's father on the other hand is averagely skilled in both swordsmanship and archery, the only difference is that they were rumours all over the Empire that he possessed supernatural powers, no one save for Thimi and Bonka's fathers could attest to that facts and since they have both refused to speak about it, not even to their wives. The theory then only remained an unfounded rumour, no one dared to confront the Emperor and ask if truly he posseses supernatural powers. After walking the long distance from the training ground to the palace, they had all settled in a corner of the palace and watched as people moved through and fro the palace, they cracked jokes, talked about their Tutors at the the training which led to them asking Thimi where he had learnt the skill and knowledge of his archery, he couldn't give much info as it appeared that it was all a talent that came to him naturally as their own skilled sword wielding was to them. As they talked on, they suddenly noticed the emergence of Ajaka, Jakuta's elder brother who was in the company of his betrothed wife. Ajaka was way Older than their trio and also because he is the crowned prince to the throne of Hoyoh Empire, he had to get familiarised with his betrothed as it was their custom and tradition. As he passed by, both Thimi and Bonka curtsied while Jakuta just mumbled his greeting. They were not actually best buddies though they were brothers, Jakuta as always not fancied Ajaka's ways because he never learnt how to fight or shoot arrows like him and his friends. Instead he had chosen to be schooled by one, if not the greatest scholar in all of the Empire and beyond. While Ajaka and his Bethroted, Rola walked in the front, Ajaka's guards and Rola's maids walked behind them. One out of the maids couldn't take her eyes of Jakuta, she kept on staring at him until they walked out of sight. Chapter 4 In the middle of a thick forest he was, oblivious of how he got there or why he was there, yet something inside of him forced him to forge ahead, he was scare, yet determined. He kept on walking forward, even when it seemed like there was nothing up ahead, he still forged on. After walking tirelessly and aimlessly for a while, he saw something that caught his attention. Right in the middle of the forest, he saw a tree that wasn't in anyway like the rest of the trees surrounding the forest. The tree had fewer branches but it's leaves looked greener that the rest. He walked towards the tree and suddenly felt the need to rest, he sat under the tree with his back laid by the stem as support. It was barely few minutes after he sat down that he realised that there was a mountain just behind the tree. Without thinking twice, he had started climbing the rock, slowly, steadily and tirelessly he climbed to the top of the rock. The view from the rock top was so beautiful, so much that he was astonished at the beauty of the Empire from his view. Even the palace was right in his angle of sight, the beauty of the palace was magnified from the rock top too. He was about to sit down when he saw another thing that caught his attention again, he moved closer to the object, it was like a small pot covered up with leaves, he bent down to pick the pot up, he observed the pot for a while, the colour of the pot was not a regular one, not one he has seen in all his life. He then took the leaves of the pot as he uncovered it, a peep at the pot and a powerful lightening shone at his eyes from inside the pot, the lightening was so bright that he had to drop the pot and used his hands to make shed for his eyes, That was when he woke up from the dream. Though it was in the dream that the lightening struck him but his eyes were affected even after waking up from the dream, after a little rubbing of the eyes, the effect went away. He sat up on his bed and wondered what kind of dream he just had, he wondered if it had further meaning or it was just a dream. ****Later That Day**** Many activities were going on around the palace, the maids going about their various tasks. The palace singer stayed right outside the throne room rendering songs of praise to the Emperor, while some people stood in the throne room waiting for the Emperor's arrival. After several minutes of waiting, the Emperor finally stepped out alongside one of his wives. Old age had taken it's toll on Horanmiyan but he still looked very handsome. He gradually ascended his throne and after balancing well on it, he summoned for Agbedeh to step forward as he was the one that had been waiting to see him all day. Agbedeh stepped forward and bowed infront of the Emperor. "Rise Agbede" Horanmiyan said with his voice that's now faint and not as reverberating as it was in his glory days. "I came bearing gifts Your majesty" Said Agbedeh who was almost as old as the Emperor, Agbedeh has been the blacksmith for the Royal Army of the Empire all his life, he had been the one making the shields, swords and every other weapon for the Empire's army and also for the Emperor himself. His fame had spread all over the Empire for his loyalty, and his proficiency in his works. "Bring it forth" Horanmiyan replied. Agbedeh quickly went outside to bring the gift he told the Emperor about, the gift was enclosed in a container of sort, he quickly opened the container and brought out the gift as he handed it over to the Emperor. Horanmiyan held the gift in his hands and was astonished at the beauty, purity and shape of the Weapon that Agbedeh presented to him. It was a rare blade, it could easily pass off as an Axe but it had more beauty and rigidity than an Axe, it had a long handle that middled two sharp edges. "Woow,This is very beautiful Agbedeh" He continued caressing it in much more bewilderment and happiness but all of a sudden, his happy face became gloomy "It's such a pity I can't wield this anymore but I know someone who will cherish this with his life, guard, go and summon Jakuta for me" Happiness was restored to his face as he remembered that his son Jakuta had grown into a fine swordsman, one of the best in the whole empire, the only person that could match his fighting skills is Bonka. Few moments later, Jakuta arrived at the throne room, quickly went to his father's front and bowed before him. "You sent for me, father" He said Horanmiyan looked at him and happiness filled his soul, everything about Jakuta made him happy, even in his youth, he has one of the best physique in all the Empire, his perfectly weaved hair did more than just make him handsome but also made him look fierce. His deep voice was also a plus for him as most, if not all the maidens in all of the Empire and beyond wanted to have Jakuta has their Lord and husband but him on the other hand only has eyes for Rola's maid whom he had not even seen for a very long time now. "Yes I did, Rise up my son" Horanmiyan replied "Come closer and open your palms" Jakuta stepped closer to his father and outstretched his hands towards his father as he placed the axe in his hands. "That's a gift from Agbedeh here, to me" They all cast a glance at Agbedeh who just bowed his head a little in courtesy "But knowing very well I have no strength to wield a blade again, I therefore gift it out to you, kneel down my son" Jakuta went down with both kneels with the axe on his outstretched opened palms while his father prayed for him. Chapter 5 Jakuta woke up blearily to the sound of the rhythmic pounding in his head, gradually his blurry eyes cleared out and the events of the dream he just had played in his head. It was the same dream he had the last time, with some tweaks added this time around. The realisation of the events of the dream angered him as he stormed out of bed and headed to the throne room, it was on his way to the throne room that he saw that the palace was unnecessarily busy, that was when he remembered that the D-day was here. It was his mother’s remembrance and the Emperor had made it a norm for the day to be celebrated in grand style just like it had been done for twenty-three years since the cold hands of death took his beloveth wife away during childbirth. The day also signifies Jakuta’s birthday which he himself had also forgotten. To Jakuta, it was just another day, where his father will bring in skilled swordsmen to entertain the royal house while the pupils gather as spectators. “Greetings, Father.” Jakuta bowed before his father, the Emperor who was seating on the throne, conversing with one of his cabinet member. “What worries my fearless cub?” Horanmiyan said as he signified for him to come closer “Excuse us for now, I will summon you later” He said to the Cabinet member who obliged immediately and left Jakuta and Horanmiyan in the throne room. “Father, there's this dream that I have been having repeatedly for a while now and I don't seem to understand it at all.” Jakuta started, while the Emperor nodded along. He explained all what he saw in the dream and how the dream always played out. “Jakuta,” His father called him softly and smiled for a while “I don't know what the gods have in store for you but what I do know is that your appointed time is almost here, and that forest you saw in the dream is the forest of Lahkiritah. The forbidden forest along the path that leads to the village square.” Jakuta made a deep sound to the realisation that the place he had been dreaming about is even closer than he had thought, he passes by the forest each time he goes for his training, though everyone in the village were commanded not to go into the forest but on one or two occasions, he had been tempted to go into the forest that was tagged forbidden. On those occasions, he had been stopped by his two bossom friends, Thimi and Bonka. “Father,” he said again, “Does it mean that the gods wants me to go into the forbidden forest of Lahkiritah?” The Emperor hummed before replying, “If the gods wants you to embark on a trip to Lahkiritah, they will find a way to communicate it to you, until then, just tarry patiently for their instructions and directions.” “Alright, Father. Thank you very much, I have to go now.” He bowed again and the Emperor waved his staff of office at him in blessing. He was almost at the door when the Emperor called his name. “Do you know what today is?” “Yes, Father.” “What is ?” “It's the rememberance day of the queen, my mother.” “And ?” “My birthday.” “Glad you remember, and do you also remember that today we will be witnessing a combat between skilled swordsmen ?” “Yes, Father” “Good. Today, one of those skilled swordsmen will be you, my son.” Jakuta couldn't do well to hide his surprise, he had never in anyway expected such, but as he was taught, nothing should catch him off guard. “Who will be the second swordsman?” He asked “When you get to the arena, you will find out” ****Later That Day**** The arena was filled to the brim, everyone waiting for one of the most important combat of the year in which the best of the best in the whole empire were always being selected to fight. The weather also seemed to be in agreement with the great joy and anticipation that filled the atmosphere as the sun shone it's light bright enough to illuminate the whole arena even at dusk. Jakuta who had been training real hard since dawn when his father had informed him about the fight, was the first to enter into the arena. Loud jeers and noises rocked the arena as he walked majestically, knelt on one leg before his father, the emperor whose throne was mounted high by the arena. The emperor waved his staff in blessing, Jakuta then went ahead to take a little bow for his brother, Ajaka who was the crowned prince, right beside Ajaka was his bethrothed, Rola and right behind Rola was the maid that had caught Ajaka’s fancy. She smiled widely at Ajaka who nodded his head at her, Rola who thought he nodded at her, waved back cheerfully. Jakuta then walked to the middle of the Arena. Few moments later, a masked man emerged into the arena, Jakuta who had been curious to know who his opponent would be was surprised to see a masked one. The masked man went to where Jakuta was standing before and paid his own homage to the Emperor and the crowned prince before then walking to the middle of the arena and after which, he took off the mask. Jakuta was reflexively taken by surprise at the sight of who the face behind the mask was,he had never even thought about it for a moment that it would be him, someone that knew him well, that knew all his skills, someone that he had never won in a combat before, though he has never been defeated by him too. All their matches had always ended in a draw but knowing fully well that this match, a winner must emerged, he knew he was in for one hell of a fight, against his bossom and beloveth friend, Bonka. .
