Oil Giant ExxonMobil have sacked 89 staff: 60 Full-time staff and 29 Contract staff, mainly workers at Qua Ibeo Terminal at Akwa Ibom. This was mainly due to the dire economic conditions in Nigeria from low Oil prices to Disruptions from Militant groups.

Qua Iboe is Nigeria’s largest crude oil stream and ExxonMobil exports more than 300,000 barrels per day from its terminal in Eket, Akwa Ibom State.

The affected workers are from the Public Affairs, General Services and Logistics departments.

These staff will be adequately compensated based on the number of years in service at ExxonMobil.

Over 250 staff were disengaged in 2016 and there are expectations that more staff will be sacked within the next few months.
