guys i need ur advise,i've been trying hard to be a java programmer,and ive learnt all the concepts of java,jsp,ejb,j2eee programming(control statements,arrays,methods,object oriented programming,sessions,expresssions,scriplets e.tc) but my headache is that i do not know how to develop an application,pls guys i need ur help to explain to me what NEXT i have to do or KNOW in order to know how to build an application.

you read all these without practise? I mean raw coding and see how what you are studying works in real life ?
I guess you might have to go start with the JAVA SE again and start writing codes while you study , you will get to a stage your book will teach you how to develop a working program (GUI) driven one , and more and more , try to go to SUN website to read more about developing applications with JAVA , and again GOOGLE will also help you alot

, @poster, u dont need to have a huge idea to develop a software since u have programming knowledge then its simple nd direct,
Think about desktop applications, web applicatios nd all that e.g you can wite a mini test engine. I wont advice you start with web applications cos you need all the JavaSE you cn get,
A mini test engine which ll register students nd maintain a student list, list of system users, a module for uploading the test questions to the database, the the test engine itself which is pretty easy, you just need to b creative nd crazy;

Remember no programmer sells his/her first app for a buck,

like the others have said. practice, practice, practice.

however start simple. forget GUI or web apps. do simple command line stuff.
"Hello World" is the classic beginners app.

Once you get that working then write an application that prompts for the user's name
and print "Hello [username]".

Next write the "Hello world/username" output to a file instead of to Standard output.

Next make it object oriented. create a HelloWorld class that has several methods to print different things
e.g. "Hello world", "Goodbye world", "Look Ma!, I'm now a programmer!"

@Poster, what program do you have in mind? I mean do you have an idea of what you want to write? If yes, then lets start with that.

To develop an application, I think is going longer way more than learning any programming language, with any language, you only have tools to work with. Though, a brick layer is as good as his/her tools provided he/she knows how to use them. There many archtectural design models like csla and others that you need to learn about to become a programmer that can provide solution not bugs.
