Report has surfaced that the national Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is preparing to run for the presidency in 2019.

He has been reportedly holding series of meetings and consultations for his presidential aspiration.

The former Lagos state governor was said to have revealed his interest in the number one position during the inauguration of Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN) as the newly elected governor of Ondo state on Friday, February 24.

“There is nothing wrong with such ambition. It depends on the timing and the environment and what political leadership dictates. I will not brush aside such an aspiration,” he said.

Sources close to him disclosed that he is already putting together a team in preparation for the race.

Several politicians are already gearing up to contest the 2019 presidential election which is two years away.

According to a source in the know, Tinubu is tired of being a kingmaker and has decided to contest.

Three names have been pencilled down as his possible running mates.

1. Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto state



He was chosen due to name recognition and political considerations. Before he became, Tambuwal was the speaker of the House of Representatives. He dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the APC in 2014 after months of speculation and denial.

2. Senator Abu Ibrahim


He represents President Muhammadu Buhari’s Katsina South senatorial district. He was picked as one of the possible running mates to placate the president’s people and power bloc. He was the chairman of the Katsina branch of the PDP for some months. He later defected to the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) under whose platform he was elected Senator for the Katsina South (Funtua) senatorial district in April 2003. 2006 he was expelled from the ANPP in 2006 and in 2010, he followed Buhari’s lead and resigned from the party. He became a senator once again in 2011 under the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) platform.

3. Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi II


Another possible candidate to be Tinubu’s running mate is the Emir of Kano who is a well-known political associate of the APC leader. He served as governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria from 2009 until his suspension in 2014. He was picked because of his expertise on matters concerning the economy which could prove very useful to a Tinubu presidency.
