She left her country, the Republic of Togo, 17
years ago, for a better living condition in
Lagos, Nigeria. Having gone through the thick

mega city like Lagos, she final got entangled in
a relationship that produced three children.
Along the line, 42-year-old Adisa Idris, fell out
with the man and buried herself in her
business as a food vendor in Apapa area of
Lagos state.
Thereafter, she met another man, Idris, a
hustler at the Apapa port, with whom she has
two children.
Today, another fate, different from the heart
break she suffered in her first relationship, has
befallen her. As you read this piece, she is
being detained at the State Criminal
Investigation and Intelligence Department,
SCIID, Yaba, Lagos, over alleged murder of one
Abdulraman Danbaba (32).
The deceased, who was also a Togolese, was
allegedly hacked to death by Adisa’s husband,
Idris.
Reason? Idris alleged that the deceased was
having clandestine relationship with his wife.
The incident occurred at their apartment, a
shanti, on Kofo Abayomi round about, Apapa,
last Friday.
Information at Crime Guard’s disposal revealed
that fleeing Idris returned home at about 10pm,
to find the deceased in an alleged
compromising position with his wife.
Unable to control his emotion, he made for a
hammer which he landed on the visitor,
causing him to slump. Before help could reach
Danbaba, , he was confirmed dead on arrival
at the Apapa General Hospital.
Rumour of extramarital affairs
A resident, Mr Okoye Mmadu, who spoke with
Crime Guard, expressed shock at the incident
which he blamed on some of the fleeing
suspect’s friends.
According to him : “Mr Idris is an easy going
man. He was working as a private guard in a
company around Apapa, before he was
dislodged. He only got another one at the Apapa
ports.
It was rumoured that his wife had an affair
with the deceased. These rumour mongers
claimed they usually saw the deceased with
Idris’s wife both at the buka she runs and at
their home. They also alleged that the deceased
usually came to visit the woman at odd hours ,
particularly when Idris was not at home. When
Idris confronted his wife, she denied.
Tragedy
“On the day of the incident, Idris returned
home to meet the man right in his apartment,
with his wife. We heard somebody called him
on the phone to inform him that the stranger
was around. And when he came, he over
reacted. Now, everyone behind the rumour has
taken to his heels.”
How my husband killed Danbaba
But in this interview with his wife, she denied
having anything other than a platonic
relationship with the deceased.
According to her: “Danbaba was a regular
customer of mine. He usually visited my buka
to buy food. He became our family friend when
I discovered we were from same country. My
husband even knew him because he (deceased)
usually visited when my husband was around.
Last Friday, I called Danbaba on the phone to
buy me beans porridge because I had not
finished cooking and I was very hungry. That
was not the first time he would buy food for
me.“
When he came, he met me in the sitting room
but said that he did not buy the beans. He sat
down to watch the television with me. Besides I
was not alone with him. My employees and
children were also in the sitting room.
“Barely had he stayed for 15 minutes than my
husband returned. Immediately he sighted
Danbaba and I together, he went out. Not quite
long , he came in again. He went straight to
where Danbaba sat and landed a hammer on
his head. I never knew he was armed , I would
have prevented him from striking.
He immediately bolted away when he realised
what he had done. We poured water on
Danbaba as we kept calling his name but he
did not respond.By the time we rushed him to
the Apapa general Hospital, we were told he
was dead.
“Now my husband has abandoned me to suffer
for a crime I did not commit. How could he
have accused me of having extra marital affairs
with the deceased whom I was much older
than? How could I be promiscuous at this age,
when I have better things to think about? I am
diabetic and that is the most pressing issue on
my mind , not promiscuity.
“I really don’t know where he fled to. He could
have gone to his country because he knows I
know there. I wish he would come back to face
the consequences of his crime instead of leaving
me to face it”.
Crime Guard learned that efforts were still on
by Homicide detectives to apprehend the fleeing
suspect. In the meantime, his wife as reliably
gathered, would be charged to court .

The Lagos State Government on Friday said 9
bodies from the Otedola Link Bridge fire
incident which occurred on June 28 have been
successfully matched to their families.
DAILY POST had reported that the accident
caused by a petrol tanker, led to the death of
nine people, while over 50 cars were also
burnt.
A statement issued by the Commissioner for
Health, Dr Jide Idris, to NAN said that 11
families had showed up at Lagos State DNA and
Forensic Centre (LSD&FC) for testing and only
nine families had been matched.
“On July 5, 2018, samples from the incident
were picked up by LSD&FC staff from the
Lagos State University Teaching Hospital
(LASUTH) Forensic Pathologist, under secured
chain of custody.
“Reference DNA profiles were generated at
LSD&FC from representative family members
and compared to the DNA profiles generated
from the victims’ samples received from the
Forensic Pathologist.
“Based on the DNA analysis performed at
LSD&FC, all victim samples were successfully
matched to relatives’ samples.
“Nine bodies have been successfully matched
to nine families, out of the 11 families that
showed up at LSD&FC.
“They are now ready to be handed over to
the rightful families for necessary burial
arrangements.”
“Collection of the remains would commence
from 10.00am July 28 at the Seminar Room of
the Pathology & Forensic Medicine
Department of the Lagos State University
Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja.
The commissioner said that this was the first
time unidentified victims of a mass disaster had
been successfully identified locally using DNA
technology.
He said that the identification process was
completed in less than four weeks after the
incident as against over six months when the
practice was to take samples abroad for
analysis.
“I also wish to note that rigorous effort is
made in ensuring that errors are reduced to
the barest minimum in order not to
compound the agony already being
experienced by the bereaved families.
“As a government, we share the concerns and
anxiety of the affected families and associates
on the identification and the need for prompt
release of the remains of their loved ones.
“However we believe that the thorough
investigation which was conducted is in the
best interest of all concerned.
“We wish to reiterate that the entire cost of
management and treatment of the surviving
victims and DNA forensics for the dead and
their families was borne by the State
Government, “ Idris said.
Idris added that some of the victims of the
accident were currently being treated at the
Trauma & Burns Centre, Gbagada General
Hospital and LASUTH and were responding to
treatment.

his unit on it are the Anti Cultism unit, Anti
Kidnapping unit, RAIDER; and the Federal
Special Anti Robbery Squad, FSARS.
“Every other policeman on operational duties
must be in uniform. They will only be in mufti
only if they are attached to the investigation
unit of the command. “We don’t want any
policeman to cause us any embarrassment.”
He also called on Lagosians to join the
Command in the fight against unprofessional
conduct by policemen by reporting any
policeman in uniform found drinking beer in
the public, on the designated numbers in the

A lady identified as Joy Alueze Bassey, has
accused one Chimaobi from Anambra state – of
gruesomely killing her brother in Senegal and
absconding after that.
According to the graduate of University of
Maiduguri, her brother, Nnamdi from Afikpo,

A thief walked into an office and stole a
worker’s iPhone using a distraction technique.
The man can be seen entering Angel Homes and
Lettings, on London Road in Southend,
brandishing a large map.
He leaned over the desk of the worker,
claiming to be asking for directions. Colleagues
of the man came over and helped but what they
don’t see is how he stole the phone under the
map.
The letting agency shared CCTV of the incident
as a warning to others. “We will be eternally

A man whose name could not be ascertained as
of press time on Wednesday allegedly killed his
mother over disagreement on choice of food for
breakfast.
A family member, who spoke on condition of
anonymity, told Punch Metro that while the
mother was preparing yam porridge for
breakfast, his son said he preferred noodles.
He said, “An argument ensued over the choice
and the mother went on with the preparation of
the yam porridge for breakfast.
“But shortly after that, pandemonium ensued
and when we rushed to know what happened,
the man had killed the mother in the kitchen.”
Another family member, who also declined to
be identified, said the man had been having
issues with his mother.
He said, “The shocking incident happened this
morning (Wednesday) after a disagreement.”
“The son killed his own mother while she was
cooking and abandoned her in a pool of blood.
“The police authorities have been alerted to the
development by neighbours.”

THE Ekiti State Governor-elect, Dr. Kayode
Fayemi, yesterday, promised that his
government would not fail the people of the
state.
He said that his administration, has no reason
to fail the people of the state considering the
experience he had garnered as a former
Governor of the State, which he said gave him
deep knowledge about the state.
Fayemi also nursed the fear about the
possibility of the Debt Management Office,
DMO, under-declaring the state’s debt under
Governor Ayodele Fayose, saying he would
probe into the issue to be able to get first-hand
information about the state’s fiscal strength to
guide him when assuming office.
He said this after inaugurating the Kayode
Fayemi/APC Governorship Transition
Committee, headed by Senator Olubunmi
Adetumbi in Ado Ekiti.
The 32-member committee is to interface with
the present government and dialogue with other
interest groups on how his government can hit
the ground running when inaugurated on
October 16.
He said: “Let me say this, neither my Deputy
Governor-elect, Chief Bisi Egbeyemi and myself
consider ourselves as having a repository of
knowledge or have answers to all Ekiti
problems, so we are relying on your wealth of
experiences.”
“In your report, tell us those things we should
not lay our hands on at all. Also endeavour to
indicate those things we can do to have
immediate impacts on our people when we
assume office, which is the most important
thing to the incoming government.
“If you look at the configuration of this
committee, we have more financial experts with
deep knowledge of fiscal issues. There are four
former Commissioners because finance is the
main thing in Ekiti on the premise that our
situations have worsened than we left it on
October 2014.
“Our people are in a serious mess, poverty has
risen and we have to move fast and ameliorate
their sufferings.
“I want to appeal to the present government,
particularly the Ekiti workers to cooperate with
the committee in the spirit of patriotism.
They should think more about Ekiti interest
than that of any individual.
“I see no reason why Fayose’s government
would not want to cooperate with you because
this was what we did in 2014 and which the
whole Nigeria commended.”

The president of Germany’s football federation
(DFB) Reinhard Grindel says he made mistakes
in handling the controversy over Mesut Ozil’s
photo with Turkish president Recep Tayyip
Erdogan.
The midfielder called time on his nine-year
career with Germany last week, accusing the
DFB of treating him with “racism and
disrespect” over the issue of a photograph
featuring the player alongside Erdogan which
was taken before the World Cup.
Ozil was critical of the federation, Grindel, fans
and media for what he regarded as racism in
treating people with Turkish roots.
The 29-year-old defended the meeting with
Erdogan, who draws widespread criticism in
Germany for being increasingly authoritarian.
Grindel said on Thursday he regretted that the
federation’s criticism of the photo “was abused
for racist slogans”.
He added: “The resignation statement by Mesut
Ozil has triggered a debate on racism in
general and the ability of football to integrate
in particular. As DFB President, I do not want
to escape this debate.”
“In hindsight, I, as president, should have
unequivocally said what for me and the
association is obvious: any form of racial

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has raised
the alarm over an alleged plan by the All
Progressives Congress (APC) to impeach Ekiti
State Governor, Chief Ayodele Fayose.
The Party in a statement by its National
Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan warned
APC to stop its plot to avoid some terrible
consequences.
Ologbondiyan said the plot was part of APC’s
effort to gain access into the Ekiti government
house and tamper with documents and evidence
of the alleged rigging of the July 14
governorship election,
The statement reads in part: “The Peoples
Democratic Party has warned the All
Progressives Congress (APC) to stop its
nefarious plot to impeach Ekiti State Governor,
Chief Ayo Fayose or attract dire consequences.
“PDP says the impeachment plot, which is being
arranged in connivance with the Police, is a
recipe for the crisis in the peaceful state.
“The PDP is aware that the plot is a desperate
bid by the APC to rush into the Ekiti
Government House to remove and tamper with
documents and evidence confirming the rigging
of the July 14 governorship election, ahead of
the sitting of the election tribunal.
“Having realized that there is no way their
daylight robbery at the poll can stand in the
court, the APC is now employing all desperate
means to subvert the course of Justice.
“This explains why a detachment of the Police
can be hurriedly deployed to besiege the Ekiti
State Assembly Complex last night without a
formal request by the Speaker, the Clerk or the
Sergeant-at-Arms, who is the chief security
officer of the complex.
“The PDP states that any resort to underhand
measures to impeach Fayose, without the
constitutionally required 2/3 of the members of
the House, particularly at this time, when the
lawmakers are currently on their annual
recess, will surely be resisted by our members.
“Accusing the APC of plotting crisis all over the
nation and resorting to the use of harassment,
intimidation and brute force against the people
and our democratic institutions, PDP warns that
these dispositions of APC and its Federal
Government portend grave danger for our
nation.
“Now that the political and parliamentary
establishment of the Ekiti House of Assembly
has loudly declared that they do not require the
services of the detachment of policemen, PDP
charges the APC to immediately withdraw their
armed agents from the premises of the House
of Assembly.
“Finally, the PDP urges the judiciary to be firm
in standing by the truth on the Ekiti election
and not be cowed or intimidated by the threats
and pressure coming from the APC.
“Nigerians know the truth regarding the rigging
of the Ekiti Guber election by the APC and are
now looking up to the judiciary for justice in
the matter.!”
