Is Intelligence The Same As Wisdom? by bennyann: 6:52am On Mar 04, 2017
I've seen the word related to intelligence so many many many times on the religion section of Nairaland. There are some group of people who take this "intelligence" to another level which reflects their unnecessary display of superiority in that aspect.

This brings me to wonder and ponder if intelligence is the same as wisdom because of the bragging power possessed by the so called intelligent minds.

Well, I got the below from quora:

1. Intelligence leads to arguments. Wisdom leads to settlements.

2. Intelligence is power of will. Wisdom is power over will.

3. Intelligence is heat, it burns. Wisdom is warmth, it comforts.

4. Intelligence is pursuit of knowledge, it tires the seeker. Wisdom is pursuit of truth, it inspires the seeker.

5. Intelligence is holding on. Wisdom is letting go.

6. Intelligence leads you. Wisdom guides you.

7. An intelligent man thinks he knows. A wise man knows he thinks.

8. An intelligent man always tries to prove his point. A wise man knows there really is no point.

9. An intelligent man freely gives unsolicited advice. A wise man keeps his counsel.

10. An intelligent man understands what is being said. A wise man understands what is left unsaid.

11. An intelligent man speaks when he has to say something. A wise man speaks when he has something to say.

12. An intelligent man sees everything as relative. A wise man sees everything as related.

13. An intelligent man is always insistent. A wise man is ever consistent.

14. An intelligent man tries to control the flow. A wise man goes with the flow.

15. An intelligent man is wordy. A wise man is worldly.

16. An intelligent man preaches. A wise man reaches.

Knowledge comes, but wisdom lingers. – Alfred, Lord Tennyson

A wise man knows not only how to solve problems but even prevent the problem from arising.

A wise man sometime does not solve a problem when he knows that the solution would be worse than the problem

A wise man sometime accepts the problem as part of life and learns to live with it instead of trying to solve them.

So isn't it high time we stopped bragging about intelligence since it isn't even the principal thing? undecided

Proverbs 4:7
Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

To the Christians, Jesus Christ is our wisdom.

Religious people always feel threatened by what they perceive to be the intelligence of freethinkers and so, they come up with things like ''wisdom'' and ''spiritual insight'' without ever really explaining what they mean.
An atheist is not necessarily smarter than you; he's just braver. Don't feel insecure.

It's amazing how it's those who are brave and secured that stress a lot on the word intelligence.

If you're really secured how come you can't do without singing it? You're so obsessed with telling people how intelligent you are?

Your works or words will make us know that. I'm a kind of person that can't hide praising someone when he deserves it. So can't you wait for others to call you that instead of trolling around like a child and screaming I'm intelligent.

Lol,
Wisdom is superior to intelligence.
Everyone is intelligent, but not everyone can tap into that intelligence.

Intelligence is natural, Wisdom is acquired.

Wisdom is a reflection of a person's journey so far in life.
Where you've been, people you've met, things you've experienced.
Bits by bits wisdom is acquired.

Lmfao, and I don't support the notion that atheists are more intelligent than theists.

I do not claim intelligence or anything. From my experience, when religious people are backed into a corner, they start saying things like ''you think you are smart'', ''the foolishness of God is the wisdom of men'', ''your intelligence will not save you'' and similar things. This is a display of insecurity. The average atheist is more informed, more analytical and more enlightened that the average religious person. This is fact!!!
If you choose to construe this as a display of superior intelligence then there's little anyone can do about that.
That's good to know.

Stop laughing me jor embarassed

Seems you're trying to say everyone has the potential to be intelligent but not everyone can get it. I agree because Getting it will depend on the opportunities given to them and their capabilites and also, their aspirations.

But don't you think intelligence has so much to do with acquired knowledge than wisdom?

And I won't respond to your greeting until you stop laughing at me cry

Well, in my own case, they talk about their intelligence before I even think of going that way. When you're discussing with someone and then you declare how intelligent you are at the expense of whom you're discussing with.. What do you call that?

You make it sound like anyone who is more intelligent is better of but events that take place in our world today put that hypothesis to shame.

The fact you put there isn't a fact because they were once religious and it was that religion that led them to walk the path of seeking knowledge. They are still religious because God is the major factor of their belief system. And I don't believe they are more intelligent than the religious. Even if they are, are they wise after all their intelligence? Maybe you would also want to say it's a fact they are wiser than the religious.

Anyone who is educated have the capability of being more intelligent.

But it's so amazing all the intelligence being bragged about is just based on scientific arguments. If a religious person steps into that argument and made you aware he isn't naive of all those, does that make him any less intelligent? What makes him different is the different view.

I should even praise the religious for being able to adapt to both science and his belief and not just limiting himself to science.

All I'm saying is they should wait for others to tell them that instead of announcing it all over like a baby. It's just a simple courtesy. There's nothing wrong with bragging you're intelligent for once, but when you continue doing that, wouldn't it be termed as childish?

And Ranchhoddas, you don't need to claim intelligence before I will know you are. Personally, I haven't seen you fault in that.

Intelligence is not Wisdom. Even wisdom differs. Not all wisdom comes from God.

There's divine wisdom

The wisdom of Man and,

The of the Devil.

James 3:13-17
Are there any of you who are wise and understanding?

You are to prove it by your good life, by your good deeds performed with humility and wisdom.

But if in your heart you are jealous, bitter, and selfish, don't sin against the truth by boasting of your wisdom.

Such wisdom does not come down from heaven; it belongs to the world, it is unspiritual and demonic.

Where there is jealousy and selfishness, there is also disorder and every kind of evil.

But the wisdom from above is pure first of all; it is also peaceful, gentle, and friendly; it is full of compassion and produces a harvest of good deeds; it is free from prejudice and hypocrisy.

There's no difference between intelligence and wisdom (only if you ponder on this without Bible lens).

I call intelligence - "working sense".

To arrive at the sense, that delivers results which improves human existence, the brain must be engaged in continuous work, on ever evolving knowledge.

The ability to weave voluminous and complex knowledge into beautiful fabric, is intelligence.

You are male i guess? Do you go about telling people and stressing the fact that you are a man? It's either you are man and whoever meets you recognises that you are indeed a man or something is wrong with your maleness, and you'd do everything to prove it to the world.

If you are brave and secured, why then are you stuck up here shouting trying to convince yourself that there's no God? Why not just walk away and leave the religious people to their delusion? Yet you, the intelligent, brave and secure one is the one who can't sleep.

Do you even sometimes stop to think? Why are you so obsessed with this God idea.

Hi Bennyann, I have always asked atheists this question "Is there no place for a mentally ill person in your group?"

Atheists, while seeing themselves as highly intelligent, often forget that people who are mentally handicap exist in this world too. They forget this while they challenge us to endless futile debates. How does such a mentally handicap person argue or debate about the non existence of God, which point will he or she raise? Since he cannot engage in clever debates it means he can't be atheist

Whereas Christian religion considers such people. This is why we have a God that judges our motives, he considers the reasons before an action takes place and he judges with fairness, there is no discrimination in the Kingdom of light, infact Christ came to heal the sick, to set the captives free, to comfort the broken hearted

The difference between intelligence and wisdom in my opinion is that intelligence lacks empathy whereas wisdom applies it all the time.

We have almost the same thoughts about intelligence.

I believe intelligence is the extent or degree of knowledge acquired and the application of such knowledge to solve issues.

But for you to say there's NO difference between knowledge and wisdom, it means we have to define both.

I think wisdom is the application of knowledge whether acquired or not which gives good or better advantage and the results of applied wisdom is acceptable as a good decision or good judgment.

Let me just say wisdom is the perfect application of knowledge. What do you think?

There can be persons with the same level of intelligence but one can be seen to be wise or wiser through the results gotten from how they apply the same knowledge to solve issues.

First, there can't be "perfect application of knowledge".

What is possible is rated application of knowledge, eg below average, average, above average etc.

*The BEST use to which knowledge is put is - intelligence

*The BEST use to which knowledge is put is - wisdom

A man is said to be "unwise" or "unintelligent", when the assessment of his knowledge application capacity, revealed a below average performance.

My humble submission!
