Nigeria's Political System Remains A Mockery Of True Federalism - Atiku Abubakar by Ogene001: 9:33pm On Mar 06, 2017
The former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has described the nation's political system as a mockery of true federalism and insisted on restructuring as a panacea to the nation's challenges.

He said this today while delivering the Annual Professor Ademola Popoola public lecture of the Faculty of Law at Obafemi Awolowo University, (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, with the theme "the constitutional and political framework for reconstructing Nigeria for true federalism and national integration".

Abubakar reiterated his advocacy for the restructuring of the nation's federal system and posited that true federalism remains the only feasible means to solve the nation's numerous problems.

He dismissed the fear that restructuring of the country would lead to division or secession and advised the stakeholders to examine the possibility of using the existing geopolitical zones as federating units.

Abubakar expressed worry that many of the states in Nigeria are not viable and suggested the merger of the unviable states with the viable ones, lamenting that most states in the country could not generate their expenditure internally.

The chieftain of the All Progressive Congress frowned that the over dependence and addiction to oil money, excessive centralisation and concentration of power and resources, intense political competition and political instability were responsible for the country's woes over the years.

Much as we are accept this reality. the main problem is religious beliefs. Atiku can be the last straw to achieving this country's objective. Nigeria is in dire need for restructuring and asides that we are not going anywhere. Let also find a common grounds in religious beliefs. An very sad that this present administration had the opportunity to implement this restructuring, but clearly the appointments pattern of PMB shows he is out to destroy the little faith we have gathered over the years. Nigeria belongs to all and not to the Fulanis alone. PMB clearly drew a line with his North sided appointments . this is not democratic moves, but it will only deter the real Nigerian motives of Peace and Harmony. That's why OBJ still remain the best so far we have had in this country to inculcate the True federalism that is the soul of this country. GEJ as well worked in that part. but unfortunatly same cannot be said about PMB.
