From Emmanuel Uzor , Abakaliki

There was pandemonium yesterday when youths of Owutu Edda community in Afikpo South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State went on rampage over the shooting of a soldier in the community by policemen. In the melee, property worth millions of naira was destroyed.

Trouble started when officials of “Operation Safer Highway” of the police, at a police checkpoint along Nguzu Edda road, stopped a woman wearing a military cap on a motorcycle.

According to eyewitnesses, the woman had identified herself as the wife of a soldier, which angered one of the policemen at the checkpoint, who ordered her to call her husband before the cap could be released.

It was gathered that the woman made the call and her husband came to the scene only to be assaulted by the policemen, leading to more fisticuffs as the soldier resisted arrest by the policemen. In the process, one policeman shot him in the leg.

The youths, on hearing what happened to their soldier-brother, mobilised and attacked houses of all the policemen in the community, vandakising and burning household property.

Addressing the angry youths, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor David Umahi on Internal Security, Dr. Kenneth Ugballa, appealed to them to be calm, promising that government would look into the matter.

He condemned the shooting and assured them that the police authorities would investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators to book.

Meanwhile, the victim, Ikechukwu Nnachi, is currently receiving treatment in a military hospital in Ohafia, Abia State.

there are ways to always overcome a seemingly dangerous situation but pride/superiority claims will not let humans think.

Sometimes I don't feel pity when things like these happen.. Because we have totally lost it in Nigeria... Show of superiority.. Now she has called her husband to be injured..

Trying to analyse this scenario, she isn't a military officer in the first place .. Why should she put on a military cap

Secondly why should her husband come unarmed? Or without a squad?

This country tho.. Everyone wants to show power

Trying to analyse this scenario, she isn't a military officer in the first place .. Why then does she have to claim right of what she is not?

Read the story again
The husband was shot on his leg and he is not dead

The joke is on people like you that overate the Nigerian Soldiers. Soldiers are humans and are subject to be Policed except when they are on duty. Ignorance is the greatest Problem with Nigeria.

What God has join together let no man put asunder. The wife of a military man is a miltary woman. If the husband dies she became breed winner. The police demanded to see the husband as evidence to prove she is not lieing. Do you expect a man going for a peace meeting to carry arm? You don't ve good analytical mindset. Park well jare

your analysis is the dummest i have ever read. ... they requested to see her husband for verification which she did. so whats wrong with her calling her army husband? why do you want the army husband come armed? why do you want him come with a squadt? receive sense!
