Okey Mbonu always desired a bank job. And so when he got an appointment with the defunct Fountain Trust Bank in 2005, he celebrated. His happiness knew no bounds, as he had got his dream job. He was posted to the bank’s outlet at the United States consulate in Lagos where he was more of a glorified teller. Though humdrum, he tried to enjoy every aspect of the job.

With the consolidation in the banking sector that year, Fountain Trust Bank later merged with other banks and became Spring Bank. Soon after, the new bank did some internal reorganisations and Mbonu was redeployed to the much-dreaded marketing department.

He was given targets. Though he met them, he couldn’t bear the pressure and in late 2007, he resigned and left for Bank PHB. At Bank PHB, nothing changed.
