Can you bring ursef to think that a room in Lagos once cost 2 pounds which is 4 naira.

I doubt this receipt. Nigeria was not spending pounds in 1976. We changed to Naira on first of January 1973 and even the writing on the receipt looks too fresh to be have been written in 1976.

Convert the 2 pounds then to the exchange rent at that time and calculate it to today's rate and reconvert then tell me the figure after factoring in inflation, etc

My view is that it was still expensive. Surely 2 pounds then wasn't moin moin

OP is right.

In 1976, N 200 was a lot of money then. I remember my friend bought a used Peugeot 404 for N 500 in 1979 and I bought £ 10 British Postal Order at the Marina Post Office for N 18 (inclusive of poundage) in 1980.

My first salary in 1983 as a graduate was N 350 per month. It was big money then. From Tinubu to Palmgrove, a taxi fare was N 2, four people would share and pay 50 kobo each.

Return ticket (economy) to London in late 1983 was N 380. No visa was required, you'll be given entry permit in London.

look at the date portion carefully you will discovered that the receipt has been printed before 1976. So in order not to waste the remnants of the receipts booklet that's why it was been used. You will see 196... at the date portion. Rent Receipt booklets can be used for several years because only issued one in a month or year

No.

As at the time of conversion on January 1, 1973 British Pounds was stronger, 1:2 but naira was stronger than US dollars. I think a dollar was 60 kobo then.

If that's the case, the issuer of the receipt would have crossed out the pounds sign and write the naira sign beside it.
