WARRI – MINISTER for Power Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, is present at the Transcorp Power company, Ughelli, Delta state to witness firsthand, as the generation company unveils a new 115MW turbine.

Chairman, Transcorp Group, Tony Elumelu, told guests, including host Governor Ifeanyi Okowa on the occasion that the feat by the Transcorp Power Ughelli has meant a leap from the 160MW capacity inherited when Transcorp bought Ughelli Power in 2013 to 620MW as of today.



“Power remains very close to our hear, and so in 2013, we applied 100% for Ughelli Power. We are aiming to meet 815MW by end of the year and ultimately aiming to generate 25% of the country power generation output.”

Fashola, in his remarks on the occasion noted that, “Feats, as we are witnessing today, put to bed some of the uninformed comments that stakeholders have not done anything.”

He said the new payment assurance scheme in place by government to ensure prompt payment for every power put out on the national grid and the interdependence of his ministry with the petroleum sector to deal with the challenges of availability of gas for generation would enhance power distribution in the country.

Governor Okowa, as special guest at the event, has just unveiled the new 115MW turbine, with a charge to stakeholders to ensure productive collaboration to translate into improved generation to stable distribution to end users.

The event has progressed into a stakeholders meeting where key issues on power will be x-rayed.
