Victor Moses! The Nigerian Victor Moses! A version of Victor Moses different from other versions? Still the same Moses? Or just self-belief being instilled into the player by the new manager? Or maybe a case of now or never? You mean the most consistent Nigerian player in the PL and I daresay, across Europe? The Moses who is a reliable player and starter for his club in Europe? Like I always say, it’s open to various interpretations.

Moses finally got his opportunity at Chelsea, handed to him by the Italian Antonio Conte and has grabbed it ever since, establishing himself as one of the major players in Chelsea’s starting line-up and most consistent full backs in the 2016/2017 PL season. A very welcome news and development for Nigerian football fans around the world

Funny enough, he has been given a chance in an unfamiliar role where he has to do more. Akin to killing two birds with a stone. He’s been deployed as a right wing back in Conte’s 3-5-2 system where his discipline is demanded in defence even as he is also licensed to make necessary attacking forays into the opposition eighteen yard box from the wings. And what a good impression he has made so far!

Fans actually get all worked up when a certain Victor Moses is not on the starting sheet for Chelsea. A very far cry from what was obtainable a few seasons back. Victor Moses has put in decent shifts this season to endear himself to the fans in London, England and all around. One of the few Chelsea players confident enough to initiate attacks from the wings and take on his man, beating him and making quality delivery into the box or even opting to score himself.

Moses was signed by Chelsea in 2012, under the Di Matteo regime, but has been on sojourns to Liverpool, Stoke City and most recently West Ham on loan spells. He has been seldom used at Chelsea by different managers. But then came Conte. I call him Conteribaba! Baba for the blues. His man management skills and system has restored confidence to Moses as he oozes classic utility in terms of football positions on the pitch. Defender cum attacker. A dancing, skilful and mazy running winger.

Moses now represents Nigeria as a mainstay in one of the biggest clubs in Europe. No one saw that coming. Moses’ impressive numbers this season are below:

26 appearances in the PL. 21 starts and 5 substitute appearances
1842 minutes played in the PL
2 starts in the FA cup
2 starts in the league cup
2 assists in the PL
3 goals scored in the PL
1 goal in the league cup
3 yellows to his name in the league

If he maintains or aspires to improve his character and consistency, this could be his best season yet as he has that right wing back position covered. Kudos to Moses
