The EPL match day 29 fixtures have been concluded. The discussion won’t be complete without a look at 11 players from the African Continent that played key roles for their team in the just concluded encounters. Several African players made contributions to their sides, some major and some minor. We take a look at the 11 players who were mainstays in their sides in the just concluded match day.

RIYAD MAHREZ

The Algerian attacker was a menace down the wings for West Ham’s full backs. He took part as his side beat West Ham 3 goals to 2 at the Olympic Stadium. His attacking number was vital as he contributed a goal courtesy of a cross cum shot which the Hammers goalkeeper miscued and let into the net to give Leicester a 1 goal lead in the encounter. He was subbed in the 87th minute

VICTOR WANYAMA

The Kenyan midfield beast! Played a key role in midfield for Spurs as he countered the Saint’s midfield with interceptions, tackles and passes. His side ran out 2:1 winners. He played the entire 90 minutes

WILFRED NDIDI

The Nigerian midfielder stood his ground and was impressive as Leicester beat West Ham. He played the entire 90 minutes

ALLAN NYOM

The Cameroonian full back had a long 90 minutes but was impressive as he held his own against Arsenal’s attackers on the flanks. His side garnered all 3 points as they beat Arsenal. He played the entire 90 minutes

IDRISSA GUEYE

The chief midfield tackler and ball interceptor. He played his part as Everton thrashed Hull City 4 nil. He played the entire 90 minutes

VICTOR MOSES

There were injury fears before the game but the Nigerian winger now being deployed at fullback position was on hand to thwart attack down the flanks from Stoke as his side stole maximum points at the Brittania. Subbed at 70 minutes

YOHAN BENALOUANE

The Tunisian center back was part of the back four that played their part in ensuring Leicester conceded less than they scored. He played the full 90 minutes

ERIC BAILLY

The Ivorian center back played a major part in United’s new look 3 at the back. He played the full 90 minutes and helped his teammates quell a resurgent Boro towards the end of the game to ensure United garnered all 3 points

SADIO MANE

The Senegalese attacker played his part as his movement posed major threat to Man City’s defensive line. Didn’t get a goal but was good enough to ensure his side got a point from the encounter. Finished the game

JOEL MATIP

The Cameroonian was part of the Liverpool defence that had to concentrate to ensure no key pass went through for any City attacker on goal. Though the effort wasn’t enough to stop City scoring, it was enough to secure 1 point. Finished the game

YAYA TOURE

The Ivorian midfielder had his chance to make a case for himself. Played his part but was subbed in the 65th minutes before City got the equalizer.

These are the African players who played a part in their sides getting at least a point from the fixtures. Only one was on the score sheet. Many other Africans participated but didn’t make the list. The only other goal from an African was from Andre Ayew as he pulled one back for West Ham against Leicester.
