Anambra State High Court Gets 2 New Judges by akelicious(m): 12:33pm On Mar 25, 2017
Government House Correspondent, Kenechukwu Ofomah reports that the judges are Justice Ngozi Lauretta Oyeka who was a former Chief Registrar in charge of High Courts at the State Judiciary Headquarters and Justice Sylvester Nnanna Odili, a private legal practitioner at Onitsha.
The appointment brings to ten, the total number of judges appointed by the Obiano administration within 3 years and to 28, the total number of judges in the state high court.
Swearing in the newly appointed judges, Governor Obiano said the exercise is a major milestone in ongoing efforts to reposition the State Judiciary to effectively address the problem of high number of awaiting trials in the state Prisons.
He described as worrisome a development where over 75 percent of inmates of the State Prisons are on awaiting trial list, saying that his government is working out measures with the Police to expedite preparation of case documents to enable the courts promptly dispatch cases before them.
The governor commended the State Chief Judge, Justice Peter Umeadi for the cordial working relationship his administration has enjoyed with him and the entire state Judiciary in ensuring quality service delivery , adding that it shows that they are in consonance with his administration's stance that the interest of Ndi Anambra superceeds every other.
Congratulating the newly appointed judges, Governor Obiano urged them to be dedicated to their duties and to uphold the honor and integrity of the court in their practice.
Responding, one of the judges, Justice Oyeka who expressed delight over their appointment, said they have accepted it as a call to service and will discharge their duties with dedication and commitment.
