Nigeria is changing for the better, all though very slowly. Are you guys too young to remember NITEL, do you remember queiing in Ikeja or Falamo to make a phone call?, do you remember waiting in a neighbour's house to receive a call from a loved one? Now the private sector is providing what successive government failed to provide. The government's role (NCC) is to create guidlelines to help market competition. Lower interconnectivity is just one method. I know anything can happen in Nigeria, but let's have some faith, my first sim card cost me N18,000 !!! how much is a sim card now. www.omafones.com |

This is very good news! Just when we thought that the free calls, Etisalat's minutes back promo et.al. were just what we wanted. Even South Africa that had mobiles before us are paying almost twice the amount we pay. Imagine, intl. calls to Naija is like N200/min I must add though that it seems as if we trad quality for tariff rate in Naija cuz in my year in SA I can count the number of times a call didn't go through. But here, |

Re: Telecom Tariffs May Drop By 50 Per Cent by omafones: 4:16pm On Dec 24, 2009 |
@emilola, call centres are private businesses, they can charge what they like. If they have sense they charge what their customers can afford to pay. If their own costs is reduced and they have long term business sense they will lower their costs. But many Nigerian businesses only look at very short term profit. but it's not government that should determine what businesses charge but ultimately the market decides this. that's my economic lesson for today. |

Why is it all the major changes only affect call rates only, No major policy towards Internet usage, we need announcement that will bring radical change to internet services. |

Re: Telecom Tariffs May Drop By 50 Per Cent by fyneguy: 2:17pm On Dec 25, 2009 |
Much as I applaud the NCC for this decision, there are still some questions begging for answers Why are calls from abroad to Nigeria GSM cheaper than local calls? It's obvious the operators sell their networks cheaper to foreign carriers than to Nigerians in Nigeria! This has to be addressed. The telephone companies give higher priority to calls coming from abroad because they get the money offshore. |
