THINGS YOUR FIRST REAL JOB WILL TEACH YOU

After going through months of grueling job search and unsuccessful interviews you finally hit the jackpot.
Congratulations! Your first job is probably not going to be your dream job except you are exceptionally lucky.
One of the most invaluable teaching experiences of your career will be your first job.
Here are the most important lessons you will learn at your first job.

Your job description is only a guideline: As someone new to the workforce,
you might believe that the description you read before an interview is the full scope of your role.
The reality is somewhat more complex. You might be required to go above and beyond your
responsibilities, especially in situations that are similar to your job role

Office hours don’t exist: your first job will teach you that 9-5 office hours is a myth.
You might need to be at work before the time of resumption and wait behind even after the close of business.
Your deadline dictates your work hours.

Make the best of your free time: your new job will leave you with so little free time
that you learn how to prioritize. You become selective of things you do with the
little amount of free time you have.

How to deal with different personalities: you will meet so many different characters
at your new job. Since your personality is probably different from theirs, patience becomes paramount.

Mistakes are part of learning: In your first job, there may be instances where you make mistakes.
Mistakes are unavoidable and one should never be scared to make mistakes. Even if you are doing
what you have always wanted to do, you are bound to slip up sometimes at some point.
The key is to pick yourself up and learn from the experience.

You can't wear what you want: Actually, you can wear what you want as long as
it's compliant with your company's dress code.

Hard work is important, people skills are also important: You can’t exist in a bubble, you have to deal with other people regularly.
You will learn the proper way to interact with other employees, managers, and your boss.

If this is what you want for your life: more than anything, your first job will teach you if the
career path you have chosen is the right one for you.
It might make you realise you don't belong in that industry after all.
If this is the case, it's never too late to retrace your steps.
