At least 19 civilians, including six children, were killed on Tuesday in heavy aerial bombardments in several parts of the eastern Ghouta, a rebel area near Damascus, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (OSDH) said.
This provisional assessment brings to 49 the number of civilians killed in two days of air strikes on the eastern Ghouta, an insurgent stronghold located to the east of the Syrian capital.
"There has been a series of air raids throughout the day (Tuesday) and the balance could increase," warned the director of the OSDH, Rami Abdel Rahmane.
According to him, the strikes hit the localities of Jisrine, Kafr Batna, Douma - the main city of the region - and an area between the cities of Hammuriyah and Saqba, where the record was heaviest with 14 Deaths.
An AFP photographer in Douma saw injured children sitting on the floor in an improvised clinic, covered in blood and dust, waiting to be taken care of.
Another AFP photographer in Saqba saw people perched on the rubble of buildings in a cloud of dust, trying to clear the rubble by hand to find signs of life.
