I had a nasty experience with the Lokoja booking centres/drivers.

It took me about 2 hours to locate the chicks and was told to pay for delivery even though I am being owed by poultryplaza since the 26th of October 2016. A lot of complains from the few people I met on ground there.
I am being owed my transportation money for the noilers i bought since the 29th of October, 2016 which is too bad.

In summary, I had to still pay for transport today to the driver which was over the price stated on the website. I am expecting some response from the poultryplaza team as i contacted them on facebook.

this is one of the aspects that scares me when it comes to booking for chicks online. I also had a similar experience though not with poultry plaza, had to pay extra for transport that we'd concluded and in the end, it became more expensive as compared to buying from my place of abode. this is not to even put into consideration, the birds I lost during transit because the driver's vehicle broke down

Its really bad. Every single person there had an issue with delivery costs.

These things happen.

When people book with us, there are times we foot the transportation bills just to keep the customers happy.

That should be the best way to maintain the business. If not, it will only be a matter of time before it collapses.

Day 1 update
Saw one looking very weak and feeble this evening. Standing on its own was difficult and I had to isolated it and took it outside under the evening sunshine. I spoon fed it with multivitamin water.

After about an hour, the chick became active and began eating on its on. The eyes that were initially closed opened up. I took it back to the flock and it's looking good.

I hope this is not a case of marek disease. But it seems this one looks like a case of a premature chick that was not sorted well from the hatchery.
This matter of premature chicks not being sorted is becoming rampant, I lost over 20 birds out of 150, not from your source tho

Charcoal used in heating the room and brooding in a confined area of my 25*13 feet poultry house.

I will take pics when available.

The house is semi covered with half of the house constantly open and the other half one closed with tampolene.

In the mornings, I open the tampolene to sunrise between 9-11am. Charcoal is withdrawn around 11am and put on around 5pm

I want to add lantern today as at this morning, the charcoal light was off when I came there early today. It means the chicks were without heat when the coal went off probably during dawn
dats good . . .wishing u best of lucks. . .

I don't know but in my opinion, I would go with the biggest and certified hatcheries.
My personal best would include but not limited to Tuns, Zartech, Amo, Chi and Agrited

The two biggest producers of broiler in Nigeria are Chi and Tuns while the two highest internationally certified hatcheries are Zartech and Tuns.

Agrited has one of the advanced equipment in Nigeria capable of producing up-to 2,000,000 day old chicks per day.

Amo is known for good research and development program in their hatchery.

So the best will depend on individual choice, Obiageli. Hope my choice will not draw negative attention here kiss

While i am not an expert in this field of hatchery ,I do not think tuns is close to the others in terms of output or production

I say this because I make doc boxes for those five hatcheries

now quality ,types of doc ,hatchery type and certification are other matters I know little about

Customized boxes are nothing bro. You need to visit us at Ibadan to see what happens with them boxes. Anyone can make boxes, mix random chicks and claim they're from a particular hatchery. There aren't any means put in place to checkmate these practices. Saying that a particular farm or hatchery is the best based on stats or what's written on paper isn't really the way to go. I know some hatcheries/farms that have great birds but they come in unbranded boxes all in a bid to cut cost.

And mind you, KFC doesn't only take birds from TUNS. There are regular farmers who supply processed birds to KFC and other franchises at mouth watering rates that even KFC wouldn't not say no to. Remember, anything goes in Nigeria. So chief, there you have it. Not everything written on paper or hearsays are correct. My one kobo opinion.
EMMAACHILE:

Interesting stats here. Are you the sole supplier of boxes? Why is box supplied to tuns not customized?
I am trying to look for a space to add docs from any Zartech or Chi and compare the performance practically myself. Some info gotten are from farms, vet doctors, dealers on poultry products and a contact at one of the hatcheries.

In terms of certification, Zartech and Tuns have the highest certification currently and also the only partners allowed to supply for example Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) chain. KFC is known to allow only the best to supply them.

Most of their supplies I think should be in supplies of frozen chicks to large outlets and not retail sale. The plant has an investment of above 8 billion naira. Find out more yourself since you have direct contact with them.

We are just 2 manufacturers of doc boxes that supply to those hatcheries, for one I supply alone ,so i have an idea of the volume each of them do
Tuns make both plain and customised single color ,what they use for what type of doc is something only they can answer
While people have there personal preference ,what I hear is chi chicks are generally considered the best and hence sell at the most premium and also have the most certification, for this they are the only ones in niigeria that rear grand parent stock along with obasanjo farms ,agrited and amo are presently in pursuit of that privilege
Like i said all this are hearsay from discusion with people in that industry and subject to confirmation

By the way I make branded doc boxes for a lot of hatcheries beyond that 5 ,also make a lot of plain boxes for smaller hatcheries ,and we arec still looking for more customers grin

They do. Trust me when I say they do.
EMMAACHILE:

I was surprised to see tuns broilers in an uncustomised box. It doesn't tell well of the farm.

I understand that because some farms even within Lokoja here have very good birds who are unknown household names. But a large farm should have a customise box imho.

What I know is that you can not go wrong with docs from Chi, Amo, Zartech, Agrited. Tuns will be on the test on my small farm here.

One premature child found among my supply is a first red flag

Not saying tuns quality is not as good as the rest ,was just saying in terms of production output ,I don't think they produce up to the others ,I might be wrong

From the little I know, broilers from reputable hatcheries will grow big if fed very well. I have bought from backyard hatcheries and still got acceptable result. With proper care things will most likely turn out fine. JUST MY AMATEUR OPINION!
