U.S. officials have charged a 23-year-old Nigerian man with alleged ties to al-Qaida with attempting to destroy an airplane.

Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab was thwarted during his attempt to light an explosive device aboard Northwest Flight 253 which, if successful, would have not only destroyed the plane but most likely taken the lives of the nearly 300 people on board.

A source tells Fox News that Abdulmutallab specifically sat in seat 19A of the plane -- a window seat above one of the plane's fuel tanks. An onboard explosion would have increased the chances of the aircraft going down after triggering the tank's explosion.

I see that Nigerian govt and US govt have most likely reached some type of DEAL or the guy is going to give some info on alqueda because there is NO WAY he can get only 20 years for trying to blow up a plane carrying 300 people.
