Now it have hit you real hard, all you need now is to know your short comings .. University lecturers hardly have time to set new questions ,get past question of at least 4 yrs on each course ,make friends with some brilliant boiz in class ,solve all this .attend classes read ahead of each class if possible .. and dedicate at least 2hrs daily after lectures .. Or even 3times a week .. Believe me u will make better grades in ur next exam |

Dear OP I can relate well with your story. I had a similar experience. After my first semester in the Uni, I had a GPA of 0.9, a third class. I was devastated, I ran to my Course Adviser, she mocked me, called me names, advised me to go get a new JAMB form if I ever wanted to graduate from Uni with a decent result. I ran that day from Ago Iwoye to Ijebu Ode looking for JAMB forms. Fortunately for me, JAMB application closed a week before that day. I went back to school dejected. I contemplated suicide. You see, my father died when I was just 10 years, my mother was a middle level civil servant, we were struggling. My only way out of poverty was education. Fortunately for me, that month, I met a mentor, who introduced me to Jesus and encouraged me not to give up. I graduated from the school, top of my class. That was about 12 years ago. Graduating with good results has helped me a great deal. Today I work with one of the best employers in the Oil and Gas industry in Nigeria, have also had the privilege of working with some of the best banks and service companies in Nigeria. All of these would never have been possible if I had given up after my first semester. What helped me: 1. I got closer to God. This might be a bit controversial, but it is the complete truth. Right after the massive failure in my 100 level first semester, I realized I had less than an average IQ and if I wanted to leave school with a good result, I needed more than that. I prayed about it, I came across the portion of the bible that talks about asking God for wisdom/intelligence if you think you are lacking in it. I prayed hard about it and I believe He answered. Right after then, I rarely got less than 70/80 in any course while in the uni. I never failed any aptitude test, even up till now. My IQ measures over 130 in any standard IQ test. Infact, despite studying microbiology in school, I started ICAN right after graduation and did not repeat any paper till I qualified and became a chartered accountant. So get close to God. That's the first step. 2. I studied hard. I studied like my life depended on it. I stopped going home for breaks. The only thing I prioritized over my studies then was my relationship with God. My life was between school, church and my room. 3. I tuned down my social life. I stopped being the cool guy. People stopped calling me a 'G' and started calling me names like 'nerd', 'professor' etc. The happening guys then are struggling today, but those of us that paid the price then are reaping the benefit now. I am glad I made those sacrifices. Today, I am enjoying the full benefits of those sacrifices. I left school, got good jobs, helped lift my family out of poverty. Like I said earlier, don't give up on yourself. It is definitely not too late for you to turn things around. The benefit, at the end of the day, far outweighs whatever sacrifice you need to make. You can do it. Pls. feel free to send me a personal message if you want to. I hope to log to NL a decade from now and read your own testimony. 6 Likes 3 Shares |

lilzcee:I'm pretty sure it's Funai.. it's very hard not relating to the things you pinpointed after four years in the school My advice: Your 'baby steps' are not enough to conclude that you're not a bright student.. Just remain steadfast in your studies, subsequently, you'll get to discover your contemporary 'baby step' considerations are mere facades. See you at the top... |

lilzcee: Hey! You are afraid. Or might have short retention memory. I used to have it too. Read normally during the semester to get familiar with the topics. Then you map out key sections to concentrate on. Wake up 4am and read until you have paper. No matter what, do not sleep. Once you sleep, everything don go. If paper is 7am, wake 3am. If paper is 10am, wake 5am. Those five hours are strictly for reading. You are not allowed to use it for group discussion. Pray, pray pray. Like you have not read |
