BigIyanga:

It's cargo Airport and folks like you are congenitally incapable of grasping of how aviation industry works. Enugu has the first mover advantage when it comes to aviation in the east, yet it has only one intl operator.

NCAA will grant license to new operator and Ethiopia has license to land and take off in Enugu. Anambra Governor cant tell airlines where to land, its the FG that exercises that power.
You are daft but you don't have to make it so obvious. The airport in Umueri is both a cargo and a passenger airport which the Anambra state govt had secured its license since 2009 but the previous administration lacked the will to construct it. Airlines choose whatever route they want and Ethiopian Airlines chose Enugu due to the large number of Anambra-based traders flying to China, Dubai etc. With the coming of this new Anambra International airport, no sane Onitsha or Nnewi trader would want to take the longer distance to Enugu where they would even be harassed by customs, police and soldiers on the Awka-9th mile-Enugu road. With the subsequent drastic fall in passengers wanting to use Enugu airport, Ethiopian Airlines will have no option but to redirect traffic to the Umueri airport in Anambra where majority of those patronizing the enugu airport come from. That will eventually signal the death of the enugu airport.

This discussion is above your intellectual grade. Go and play in "beer palour ring" where you are revered by drunks and propagandists.

Onitsha is 15mins away from Asaba Airport.Nnewi is 30mins away while Umuleri is about 45mins away from Onitsha, and an 1hr away from Nnewi.
ASB has better hospitality infrastructure like hotels, transportation etal and Umuleri has none.

Since you dont understand first mover advantage, ill break it down for logically-challenged folks like you. Enugu has better aviation structure that is owned and funded by FG. It will keep attracting domestic and intl airlines. FG and airlines decide where they operate not governors ( google exclusive list) Enugu has been in existence b4 Ethiopia started operating from there a couple of years ago and intl flight is only a fraction of number of flights using that airport.

Breaking it further down for insular and geographically challenged folks like you.
Air freight is very expensive and mostly for time-sensitive shipments. Air freight from China to Lagos is $7/kg, so 1tn =$7k while ocean from China to Lagos for a 20ft container of 20 tn =$7k which is about $0.30/kg. Business people use cost effective method of shipping.

Onitsha is 15mins away from Asaba Airport.

Buffon, this wawa-inspired trash you typed is fit to be shoved up ur ass. Onitsha is only 20 mins from Umueri, while Nnewi is 30 mins tops. But u can't know this because ur wawa skull is set to perpetual ignorance. The new airport has hotels, shopping malls etc in its features. Enugu airport is too far away while d perennial traffic jam on Niger bridge will discourage further usage of the Asaba airport by Anambra-based businessmen. No airline flies non-profitable routes and as soon as the Umueri airport is completed, Ethiopian Airlines will discontinue the Enugu route and apply to NCAA to fly the Umueri route, including Peace Airlines(Anambra-owned) because most anambra traders currently sustaining the Enugu airport, will move to a facility closer to their base.

.
You have clearly demonstrated that you're geographically-challenged to know where towns are located in order to calculate distance. Even Google says that Umuleri is 38-42mins, factoring in the time it takes to drive on a single carriageway with 60Kmh vs driving on a dual carriageway with 100kmh to Asaba( it takes real driving experience to notice this ) unless the airport is located at Awkuzu junction, then you could get their in 15 mins

If Asaba is not profitable then citing an airport in a distant place like Umuleri is a ludicrous idea!! Only delusional fools think that Umuleri is closer to Onitsha than Asaba.

Ethiopian Airlines only flies to Enugu 3 times in a wk while servicing over 20m folks in SE, so u think it's going to leave 15m folks for a cargo airport in anticipation of having about 1 flight a day? Emirates pulled out of Abuja in spite of its size and wallet. United pulled out of Naija in spite of our size and wallet.

Since this is a proposed cargo airport, who are their targeted customers?

No need to break down shipping figures for you cos you sound like you have neither run any intl biz nor travelled extensively to speak from a position of experience.

Anambrans alway emotionally bent and deluded. The most myopic set in WA. Obiano's govt is nothing but nefarious and deceitful. 1000 MOUs in one year without anything to see. Hanging fluorescent bulbs on Awka flyover a mockery of the greatness anambrans are known. Exporting yams and vegetables when citizens can't buy a tuber. I wish to see these yams and vegetables being lift from anambra soil. APGA has bondaged Anambra my God Shiva heal Anambra Isee!
