Is Celibacy A Scriptural Requirement For Christian Ministers? by donogaga(m): 10:50am On Apr 12, 2017
RELIGIONS around the world - such as the Roman Catholic Church, the various Orthodox churches, Buddhism, and others - require celibacy of their religious leaders and clergy. On the other hand, many people feel that this practice lies at the root of the recent wave of sexual scandals involving clerics of various religions.

It is, therefore, reasonable to ask, Is celibacy a scriptural requirement for Christian ministers?

celibacy or whatever yes a recipe for disaster! I You can't expect a healthy matured human not feel the urge to procreate. It's biological law governing every living thing designed by God himself.

No sir..it is not a scriptural requirement nor was it ever.

Genesis 2:18King James Version (KJV)
18 And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.

It would be reasonable to apply this scripture to those who are called into the ministry. There are those however, who have been given the gift of celibacy...meaning they have chosen to serve God without a spouse and are effective and at peace.

However, I would say that the majority have not been given the gift of celibacy.

Paul was celibate, Jesus was celibate too. Go and read Corinthians:7 to check why it is recommended for those who want to dedicate their lives to God.

Peter was not celibate.

Paul condemns teaching that people must be celibate. read 1 Tim. 4:1-3.

Peter was celibate and you misconstrued that verse.

Celibacy is NOT a requirement. Jesus says in Matthew 19 Jesus Teaches on Celibacy 11 But He said to them , "All cannot accept this saying , but only those to whom it has been given:

12 For there are eunuchs who were born thus from their mother's womb , and there are eunuchs who were made eunuchs by men , and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake. He who is able to accept it , let him accept it."

As an unmarried minister you MUST remain celibate until marriage.
