better go and do more research on your claims who told you that they used their own rockets. Google is your friend.

Quick facts about Nigcom sat 1.

NigComSat-1 was a Nigerian communication satellite.
The initial contract to build the satellite was signed in 2004.

It became the first African geosynchronous communication satellite, when it was launched at 16:01 UTC on 13 May 2007, aboard a Chinese Long March 3B carrier rocket, from the Xichang Satellite Launch Centre in China.

The spacecraft was operated by Nigerian Communications Satellite Ltd (NIGCOMSAT). On November 11, 2008, NigComSat-1 failed in orbit after running out of power due to an anomaly in its solar array.

On 10 November 2008 (0900 UTC), the satellite was reportedly switched off for analysis and to avoid a possible collision with other satellites.

According to Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited, it was put into "emergency mode operation in order to effect mitigation and repairs".

The satellite eventually failed after losing power on 11 November 2008.

On March 24, 2009, the Nigerian Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, NigComSat Ltd. and CGWIC signed a further contract for the in-orbit delivery of the NigComSat-1R satellite.

NigComSat-1R also uses the DFH-4 satellite platform with improvements over the previous satellite, and was delivered in the fourth quarter of 2011 as a replacement for the failed NigComSat-1.

It was successfully launched on December 19, 2011.

Well we have the great OBJ to thank for this satellite scam. His kinsmen wouldn't condemn his actions and would probably call him a saint, but just take a look at some of his "saintly" actions:

1. Billions of Naira spent on his Gas Turbines project, most of which ended up in His Ota Farm.
2. Transcorp scam
3. Haliburton scam - $74 million paid off to him
4. Seimens scam - $1.4billion
5. PHCN rebranding ended up costing the country billions of Naira. We all know how that rebranding turned out.
6. The re-branding / heart of Africa project : Nigeria lost billions of dollars in his re-branding scheme scam, public funds were mismanaged and were used for false advertising on CNN, Aljezerra etc

And last but not least, the satellite scam. Nigcom SAT-1 cost Nigeria $340million.

In most countries, these fellow would be languishing in Jail BUT hey, this is Nigeria and he is of a certain tribe, therefore his tribes men have an obligation to defend him. Today we have this criminal ministering from the pulpit of RCCG on a regular. This is indeed a funny country!

But I can remember when the satellite failed in 2008,they said the operators in Abuja forgot to charge the batteries. Bunch of daft individuals.

I actually don't make comments here most times... but the truth is the satellite is working very well... I tracked 5 sites for FRSC last year and 2 others for different federal clients this year... it's very much functional... in fact the federal government ordered it's agencies to relocate to the satellite...

No other countries own do fail too even the advance countries like USA have lost satellite too

Liar, no country in Africa has their own launch rockets. 2.our team who went to Surrey has built our own domestic satellite which has been launched but it isnt a communications satellite, just a weather monitoring satellite. Stop trying to run the country down and get your facts right before you post.
