It’s a common metaphor that there’s no worse feeling than feeling the side of your pocket for your phone and you don’t feel it. Mehn, your heart must undoubtedly skip a beat or two. You might have something important stashed somewhere in the phone or perhaps, all your pictures, and confidential stuff are inside the phone somewhere. That’s why we decided to publish a post on how to find your lost or stolen android phone (Even if you’re living in Nigeria). How to Find your lost or stolen Android Phone from your Computer. The good news is that you can quickly find your missing handset with Google’s Android Device Manager, even if you don’t have the app installed. Grab your computer (if you don’t have your computer, see the next section), connect to the internet, open Chrome, and make sure you’re logged in to your Google account (seriously, this part is crucial). Type “Where is my phone” in Chrome’s omnibox or you can just visit google.com and type “Where is my phone”. This will do a search, and Google will automatically load a mini Android Device Manager window inside of the search results. During my testing, I found this little box to be pretty hit and miss in terms of accuracy, so for the sake of finding your phone quickly, go ahead and hit the first link: “Android Device Manager.” This will bring up the Device Manager site—you may or may not have to log into your Google account again here—and immediately start tracking your device. If you happen to have multiple phones and tablets, you can use the small drop down to find the one that’s missing. Once you’ve told the Device Manager to find your missing phone, it’ll start tracking and should find it within a few seconds (supposing your phone ain’t off). It’ll provide the time it was located, the location, and the accuracy range. This will give you a damn good idea of where your phone is. PS: This works well if your data connection is on and your phone is also on of course. But don't worry, incase it's switched off somehow, android device manager will still tell you the last place it was seen at. Screenshot of mine below... There are so many other options. For instance, you also have the option to 1. Lock up your device by creating an immediate lockscreen 2. Ringing or calling the device so you can hear it ringing and pick it wherever you dropped it 3. When all hope seems lost, you also have the option to erase all the data on your phone incase there's some sensitive data you might not want anyone to get hold of. If you don't have a computer, you can also locate your phone from a friend's phone or from any of your other devices. Another way of finding a lost Android phone is by using a Bluetooth tracker. Specially designed to help you find your stuff, they’re great for smartphones as well. It’s a tiny plastic square which you can attach to your keys or anywhere else, then pair it with the app, available in both Google Play and App Store. Then, if you misplace your phone, you just tap the button on the tracker and it will instantly start ringing, even if it’s on silent. details: https://www.unlockunit.com/blog/how-to-find-a-lost-phone-instantly/ |
