The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has rejected an insinuation linking the botched attempt to bomb an American airliner by a 23-year-old Nigerian Muslim, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, on Christmas Day to Islam.

The Secretary-General of the NSCIA, Dr. AbdulLateef Adegbite, in a statement on Wednesday, said the embarrassing and condemnable incident should not be linked to Islam.

According to him, Islam, as a religion of peace, abhorred violence and forbade extra-judicial killing of people. The council expressed shock at the reported attempt by the young Nigerian to blow up a Delta Airline aircraft heading for Detroit, United States of America (USA), from Amsterdam and deplored the reprehensive act, which put the lives of many passengers and crew at risk.

It, however, thanked God that the evil design did not materialise. “The Muslims unequivocally reject the insinuation in some quarters linking the embarrassing and condemnable incident to Islam,” NSCIA said.

The council said on its part, it would continue to pray to God to make justice prevail everywhere in the world, so as to banish one of the main causes of uncontrollable anger that tended to propel people to resort to violence and act of terror.

In a related development, the Assembly of Muslims in Nigeria (AMIN) has expressed.

But terrorism is becoming more and more synonymous with Islamism . . . what’s the NSCIA doing to reverse this trend or notion?

btw, his actions have to be linked to somewhere, after Islam.

TSA is already subpoenaing some bloggers (ie internet forum users) over their posts on security related issues.

NL- hmmm. Why exactly was google pulled from this site?

Is Nigeria actually the problem or is it Nigerians themselves who dont seem to be able to understand the meaning of tread gently.

Read the gospel of Bukhari and other gospel in the Quran. You will see Islam justifies it all. The problem with Nigerian Muslims and Muslimsin general is is that they don't read the Quran.

Terrorist Abdulateef Adegbite is a mad man,
Osama bin Ladin is also not a moslem.
Even Terrorist Adegbite himself is a potential Suicide Bomber. All Moslems are Terrorist, nothing like Moderate Moslem.

Dr. Adegbite is doing his usual mental gymnastics. He has been doing it for years. A man tries to blow up a plane, citing Islam as his motivation. His spiritual mentors are very learned in the Quran,  and can quote extensively from the Quran for support. To claim that Islam abhors violence is the result of selective reading of the book. The reality is that one can take from any religious tome whatever one wants from the book.

According to him, Islam, as a religion of peace, abhorred violence and forbade extra-judicial killing of people.

Even he knows that this is not true. It may well be that, as the Christians do with unpleasant parts of the bible , he has chosen to pretend that all those suras that advocate the killing of 'infidels' do not exist. However, it is dishonest to describe Islam, or indeed any other religion, as a religion of peace.

Mutallab was acting in the name of Islam, was influenced by Islam, therefore, we can link his actions to Islam. Dr. Adegbite may not be happy with this, but it is true.

Boko Haram, Jos killings, Darfur killing, Bali Bombong, Mumbai killing , London trains, 9-11

Is Mutallabs action any different from these?
Re: Don’t Link Mutallab’s Action To Islam - Nscia Warns by naijaking1: 9:37am On Jan 02, 2010
This weak attempt to dissociate Mutallab's religious action from Islam is another example that Muslims---both big/small, educated/uneducated, rich/poor want to pull a wool over our own eyes. They simply want to subjugate the World to their belief system. Why can't Christians push back?
Starting from Maiduguri, Kaduna, Gombe, Jos, Illorin, and Makurdi where we have significant Christian populations, these muslims should be given no breathing space, not anymore.

Every religion has committed their own version of terrorism and atrocities in the time past. I name them.

Jihad by the moslem characterized by conversion by force through killing and beheading of infidels
Crusade by the christians where they kill people in the name of winning souls for christ.
Aztec Human sacrifice to their sun god, where they remove the heart of a living person to sacrifice to their god
African Human Sacrifice, where people are being sacrificed to gods or used in royal burial still practiced today in Nigeria in secrecy.

The only problem I have with any religion resorting to the above means today is that they seem not to know that you can use a more subtle approach to achieving your aim instead of killing your fellow humans.

This is 21st century.
