The Holy Book in Matthew 7: 12 says, “So treat others as you would like them to treat you; that is the Law and the Prophets”. In the Holy Book, this is called the ‘Golden Rule’. It is not long that the Great Britain has conducted a referendum to determine whether Scotland would be independent or not. It is not quite long the same Great Britain called on her citizens for a referendum on whether they would continue to be part of European Union or not. The referendum saw the United Kingdom out of the prestigious European Union. Almost all the nations in the European Union did everything to convince the United Kingdom to remain in the European Union but it chose to abandon the Union.
Few weeks ago, the British High Commissioner to Nigeria Paul Arkwright made one of the most embarrassing statements in history full of hypocrisy. According to him, “The Strength of Nigeria is not in her money or oil but her greatest asset remains her well-endowed and resourceful people”. He made this statement forgetting that the strength of European Union lies not in her money but her greatest asset remains her well-endowed and diversified people and culture. Being this way, why did the United Kingdom leave the European Union despite all pleas from member states and from British citizens? What a contradiction? What a hypocrisy?
