The Cry

My people cried in the rain, they didn’t notice; my people cried under the sun, it
dried up quickly. They never see us as crying citizens but instead begging
citizens, but we’ll have to still cry out our pains, be hopeful and keep our tears
of joy minimal cos even handkerchief is now expensive.

Everything is not how it used to be, even wizards now walk and sleep early so
as to wake up early to work.

My people now have to do anything just to stay alive, even the priest sees his
members cheating in a Bible Study examination, but ignores them cos the tithe
register is empty and his honorarium might reduce.

There’s nothing to show for our efforts, the president of the Barber’s Union is
completely bald. Nepotism has gotten a level 10 security clearance in all
government parastatals. The wrong is now right, they left us. Miss Bum Bum
Nigeria gets a car prize; Mr Einstein gets the handshake or a cash equivalent of
a car jack. What a jerk! in big cars.

We are law abiding, we voted for you; we exercised patience, we are lean now;
we protested, and then you gave us the water that quenches the fire but
increase our electrocution.

If you don’t know:
Babies are crying due to malnourishment
Children are crying cos they’ll sing “we are the leaders of tomorrow” in the
morning and hawk later in the day.
Unemployed youths are crying over lack of meritocracy and for building our
hope on the seashore.
Employed youths are crying over monthly don’t-kill-me stipends, stagnancy and
bad welfarism.
Businessmen/Entrepreneurs are crying over unfavourable policies and extortion.
Retirees are crying over no, small or delayed gratuity and pension.
We’ve gone far on the social media with various empty assurances, but in real
life, we are where we’ve always been.

When there’s peace, prepare for war!
