Not too late to still buy & plant FS
Re: Agro Seeds Classifications: The Best Class To Plant by gthorpe123: 7:28pm On Aug 19, 2019
Dear Nairalanders

I hope you are having a great month. We have 58 tons of Your favorite NatSoil organic fertilizer left and available for sale.

Please see below 7 reasons why NatSoil is better than the rest

1. NatSoil is better than other organic fertilizers because of it’s high carbon content (up to 91% on a dry weight basis). NatSoil contains naturally available CO(NH2)2 urea, NH4+ ammonium, organic compounds with nitrogen (N) and fatty acids (carbon, hydrogen and oxygen). In the soil the carbon causes those micro-organisms (microbes) that cannot fix carbon themselves (for e.g fungi) to use the carbon for energy & propagate.

2.It contains chitin (about 20% of carbon content), which is the most important carbon compound in soil as it attracts 3x more beneficial microbes than any other organic fertilizer. Beneficial microbes are essential for nutrient/enzyme exchange in crops. Early appearance of these microbes and readily available nutrients for them to feed on ensures they propane faster than non beneficial microbes.

3. Chitin (from maggot skin) in the soil keeps soil PH optimal. it also increases nitrogen over time as microbes expand, die then decompose (allowing crops mineralize N in various forms over a long period of time).

4.Beneficial microbes in NatSoil enable the flow of auxin and other nutrients like protein (from N which is rated at 3%), K (3%), calcium, copper, magnesium, manganese, molybdenum.

4. The increase in soil activity and the readily available nutrients speed up *germination* and *flowering/fruiting process*.

5. We have composted our product to breakdown chitin, carbon, fat, cellulose and Nitrogen such that it is readily available for mineralization by crops. This ensure that our organic fertilizer is high in microbes.

6. The chitin levels in NatSoil are adequate to restrict the growth of harmful microbes and the composting process ensures that only beneficial microbes grow first and crowd out pest microbes, pathogens and insects.

7.Our customers note a remarked difference in growth of the crop compared with any other fertilizer. Customers have seen a reduction in mites, stem borers, wireworms, botrytis species that cause mildew, moulds etc.

8. We produce locally in Epe, composting insect manure from our insect farming operations (we make 50% insect protein meal as our core product).

Please do not miss out on this opportunity to try our product at a low price of N20,000 per ton.

Contact me directly for any orders on 08176499981.

Thanks and kind regards

George

WEIGHT IS CASH IN MAIZE FARMING

A cob naturally weighs between 150-350grams (or 0.15- 0.35 kg) and when you weigh a 100 kg of maize, you going to get about 18kg grains from it (average).

A good cob of maize has about 500 kernels/seed.
A kernel or grain or seed of maize on the average is about 0.75 gram.

Please let us do the maths.

How much kg weight will be gotten from a cob that gets 500 kernels with each kernel weighing 0.75 gram?

The biggest challenge for maize farmer is to get most of his maize cobs to have as much as 500 kernels with each weighing as heavy as 0.75gram

So, for an acre of farm that has been properly done with a plant population of 10,000 stand of maize, you will get:

500 x 0.75 x 10,000 = 3,750kg or 3.755tons

For an acre with 7,500 stands or cobs, 400 kernel on cob & 0.5 gram per grain, you get :

400 x 0.5 x 7,500 = 1,500kg or 1.5tons.

The challenge is for the farmer to make sure he gets more stands on his acre & they are in good weight

LAND PREPARATION

It is advisable to keep tillage to minimum eg just two Preparation activities are enough

Eg.
*Ploughing+ Harrowing
Or
* ploughing+ Reploughing
(especially if the first plough is not done thoroughly enough)

Or
* Ploughing+Ridging (especially to make it easy to sow directly on ridges and plant faster and easier without the need to use ropes for planting)

*Ploughing alone. People call this "Plough and Plant". It is advisable you work on the operator to do thorough jobs for you

Note
In case you are hiring tractor services, understand that your cost will fall into at least two categories:
* Hiring Cost per hectare (some ask you to pay for diesel apart from hiring Cost or bring the fuel to them. The truth is that both billing methods is actually almost leading to same range of price)

* Cost of "Food" money for the operator and his assistant every day.

Another thing to carefully Note is:
*That you need to have accurate measurements of your farmland as operators do have a nak for over-estimating your farm and make you pay more for less work done.

If you are using hand to do all this Land preparation, you will need a good set of labour to:
*Clear the vegetation
*Clear the trash, pack them in spots
*Make the heaps or ridges
*Spread the vegetation over the heaps or ridges in readiness to plant your maize seed.

ROPE SETTING

First of all, I assume you have known the layout of your farm if it is a large farm.

I will assume you are a start up with just one or 2 hectares for a start.

And also assume that only 2 people will be planting the Maize.

So, you need some rolls of very long ropes and some short sticks to hold make the lines and hold the rope. You will be planting with the lines based on your planting dimension.

Here I am just giving example

If your dimension is as follows:

1) 75 cm between two rows of maize. (We say 75cm inter-row)

2) 25 cm between two maize crops on the same row. (We say 25cm intra-row)

We say the dimension of the planting is:
75cm X 25cm

Also assume your farm is a perfect rectangle (most farms are not). But you can still try to see it as such. You can decide that the lines will go in the direction of breadth or in the direction of Length; depending on the landscape of your farm.

Now, with the dimension known now, and the direction of the rows known, you set the first line by putting sticks at one end to another end and put the line in between the two stick. Let us say that is LINE 1.

Now, you need to know where to put the second line.

You can plan it that you measure about that you set the line in every 4-4 row. So you will calculate 75xm X 4rows = 300cm or 3metres

It means both planters will measure 3 metres away from line 1 and and install the LINE 2.

So every line will be set at parallel lines of 3 metres to each others.

So, if you have sufficient ropes and sticks, you can set as much as 5-10 lines at a time

Or even spend a day setting all the lines on the farm. But I think it is better to set lines each day maybe to cover the entire days work.

Plant for every 1-2 hours non stop. Planting and setting home intermittently will help your labour or you to avoid too much back pains. You will be able to keep your back straight.

I bought your seed but the yield was low.
After doing all the necessary things

What yield did you get? Was your application of fertilizer timely? At planting? 4 weeks after & @6-8weeks? Did you take good care of the weeds? And also did you contain insects, rodent?
Pls I need a truthful feedback. Thanks.

Thank you for these questions.

Lots of people blame the seed when they have not followed good agriculture practices (GAP)

Weed alone has the tendency to reduce the yield of any crop by more than 30%

With good plant population & good farm management.

At 20,000 stand/cob/ear, each weighing minimum of 100g, you can get 2tons.

If you get more cobs per stand, you get more than 2tons

Rolling Metal Seed Planter.... .
.

This is what is achievable with the metal seed planter. In maize farm, plant population is key. The only way to get good plant population is to do a pre-planning of the field before planting. The rolling seed planter helps in achieving this plant population. .
.

Look at the different stages of the maize & appreciate the planning & the efforts that had gone into these.
.
.

In farming, it's garbage in & garbage out. If you fail to plan the farm well, then don't expect bountiful harvest.
