Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale has been ruled out of their upcoming UEFA Champions League semi-finals against Atletico Madrid, suggesting their decision to rush him back for the Clasico has backfired.

The Blancos confirmed that he'd be out for at least three weeks with a calf muscle issue, which would see him return to fitness in the middle of May.

Madrid said in a statement: "Following the tests carried out on Gareth Bale by the Sanitas Medical Services, the player has been diagnosed with a grade 2 injury in his left calf. His recovery will continue to be assessed."

Ramos receives one match ban for tackle on Messi in El Clasico

Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has been handed a one-match ban after being sent off for a lunging tackle on Lionel Messi in Sunday's El Clasico defeat to Barcelona.

Messi scored a brace as Barca won 3-2 at Santiago Bernabeu.


It was learnt that Real Madrid's appeal against the dismissal having been rejected by the competition committee of the RFEF.


The committee described the foul on Messi as a "violent act" in its ruling.
