first,i dont know your location,but whatever location you are,you have to go to the high court, pay a fee for such intention. The workers might choose to guide or assist,but never free. It takes time,to file,time for the state to do publication in case of any conflict from other parties from maybe parents had/have other kids etc. The initial document that is mandatory is their death certificate. Lawyer might not bcompulsory,but using qualified ones that are knowledgable in the processing will help save time. Let him/her visit their state high court for more information.

my brother,same thing applies to me. My dad has accounts with ECO,UBA and Union bank. Dont waste your time processing the money.corruption has eaten deep into Nigeria more than how we are seeing it. The banks will not be happy if anyone shows up to claim an account that the owner has died. even when you get to the court, they will still probe you especially in monetary terms e.g if you want it processed btw a month- 50k.... 6 months -25k.They will frustrate your life in the bank also. you will walk and walk under the hot sun. they can even ask you to go and dig your dad's grave and bring his thumbprint..... at the end of the day, you would be persuaded to leave the money to GOD. No ordinary Citizen can withdraw from such account. you have got to have some connections BRO.! And to make matters worse, i heard in the news last Month that the federal Government will soon start to gather All the money in Inactive accounts in all banks!

getting a letter of administration from high court isn't a fewdays thing. It took me 3 months plus to get it. A letter of administration stands in place of a will. That is if the deceased doesn't have one. It contains the details of next of kin. There'll also be a public notice of the deceased in a national newspaper which you have to pay for.. No you don't need a lawyer cause I can't remember hiring one

Make sure you back date the death certificate of your parents. Cos any money credited to their account after their death will not be given to you, new central bank policy.I am have same issue.

He needs an LA from a court to access the bank account of the dead parents but if it's one account then an LA is good but it different accounts kindly use same one LA to access all the accounts so he could be charged for just one LA instead of multiple LAs.
Then the rest follows up
He doesn't need a lawyer as well for those saying lawyers are needed.

If no, he/she should forget the money, if yes, proceed with these to the bank:

-Parents Death certificate
-Letter to the bank manager stating your order that his/her parents funds be transferred to him/her
-Valid identification of yourself

U need to be the beneficiary to the accounts. Secondly u will need to process and provide the letter of administration which can take up to 6 months or more.

But if nothing tangible isn't in the account,it might not be worth all the effort & also remember that he/she will pay 10% of the funds before even having access to the letter of administration,also a token fee for publication will also be paid with whatever requirement by the state highcourt. Get the death certificate,visit the bank/banks, they might adhere you with balance,they could say no. Though when processing have started with highcourt, a stage will come when the court will give the recipient a letter to the bank to state the remaining balance(No bank can ignore such).In conclusion,make sure that after you have gotten your letter of administration & about to collect the funds,ask for statement of account for like six months,hence if any banker had done fraud,you have a case to win back what the parents worked for.

You can only access the account by submitting a letter of administration issued by the High Court of the state. The Letter of administration can be processed at the Probate Registry and it is advisable you get a lawyer to help you with the process. If you are in Lagos I can assist you.

Go to the probate registry of the high court. I'm guessing there is no will, so go with ur fathers id showing u r d next of kin. Go with 2 or more if possible. Carry ur own id. You will be given a letter of administration to all d banks for a fee. 10% of all monies in d accts belong to govt.
