Facebook, is bringing the Facebook Messenger Lite version to additional 150 countries around the world today. David Marcus, the head of Messenger at Facebook, posted the announcement on his Facebook page. This version of Facebook Messenger app is lighter than the main Messenger which many people commonly criticized for being too large and consuming too many resources, meaning it should run on devices that have old or just low-end hardware without a hitch.

Messenger Lite uses less memory and processing power to operate, and it also uses less data than the full-fledged app. However note that you will be missing some certain features, such as Messenger Day, the camera effects, as well as the entire third-party dev platform. If you don’t care about any of those things, you’ll be fine.

Facebook Messenger Lite is now out in 150 additional countries, which include Germany, Colombia, Italy, Vietnam, Algeria, Morocco, Nigeria, Peru, Turkey, Japan, Taiwan and the Netherlands. So its previous focus on developing markets only is gone.

The app will be available from today, meaning that if you live in one of the 150 additional countries, you should already be able to see Messenger Lite on the Play Store.
