THE CANKERWORMS

The cankerworms of Aleku common heritage
The few highly placed and famous minority
Privileged and elevated but self-centered beings
Greedy worms that destroy the greenness of Aleku

Amidst the grains in the store are few weevils
Feeding fat at the expense of the poor hosts
Destroying the viability of the whole grains
Thereby dashing the hope of its germination

The cankerworms have infected the beauty,
The quality and the quantity diminished,
And the marketability of the whole grains
The host has been rendered worthless

Tell the cankerworms that the climate has been altered
Never will it be comfortable for worms to dwell
The army of grains had decided to discomfort it foes
Until the parasites die a natural death and evil ceased

The Saint King of Oyaria

Prior to 2015 electioneering, in the land of Oyaria
There was a lucky prince turned king of Oyaria kingdom
While his reign last, there was boom of ground chemical
The same was the sole economic prosperity of the kingdom
Alas! The lucky prince turned king lack the political will
To curb the caterpillars and the cankerworms that infected
His reign, leadership, governance and posterity of his subjects

Also, for security of lives and properties and other related reasons
The good people of Oyaria kingdom rejected the prince turned king
Rather, the man from beyond the river was preferred to the prince
With the promise of change and fight against corruption
The saint king became the paramount ruler of Oyaria kingdom

Body language was renowned and associated with the new monarch
The saint king took sometimes to appoint his palace chiefs
And other members of his traditional cabinet and princes
While Oyarians await the saints that will make the list of chiefs
The subjects were surprised to see the old and used gladiators

At the tail end of the year he was appointed, the saint king
Presented his government financial plan for the coming year
Before the citizenry representatives and lawmakers
But for the first time in the history of Oyaria kingdom
Padding was heard and occupied the social media for a long while

Though, the timing of the saint king’s reign is not enviable
The on going fight against corruption has been defeated
Owning to the approach and loopholes in the laws of the land,
Ineffectiveness of judiciary, and prosecuting agencies

The global drop in the price of ground chemical drastically reduced
The foreign exchange earnings of the palace and the citizenry
Also, Oyaria currency depreciated against other kingdoms' currencies
Inflation is on the increase and the cost of goods and services skyrocketed
Far beyond the reach of common villagers in the whole of the kingdom
Partly because of doctrine of wastefulness of past traditional rulers
And lack of clear economic roadmap of the present leadership of the saint king

"Agbe loba"

Tell the people of “Areposafoko”
“Agbe loba”, again I say “Agbe loba”
True wealth is resident in the farm
“Agbe loba”, again I say “Agbe loba”

The fertile land is a blessing to the kingdom
“Agbe loba”, again I say “Agbe loba”
Moderate rainfall and favourable climate
“Agbe loba”, again I say “Agbe loba”

Proceeds from the farm was once the main source of income
“Agbe loba”, again I say “Agbe loba”
Massive infrastructures were in the past built from it
“Agbe loba”, again I say “Agbe loba”

The crude oil is less a blessing, dear “Areposafoko”
“Agbe loba”, again I say “Agbe loba”
Compared to the benefits derived from the farm
“Agbe loba”, again I say “Agbe loba”

The oil brought militancy and other vices along
“Agbe loba”, again I say “Agbe loba”
While the farm gainfully engages the populace
“Agbe loba”, again I say “Agbe loba”

Bring back the treasured groundnut pyramids of the north
“Agbe loba”, again I say “Agbe loba”
Cocoa house of Southwest, cotton and rubber
“Agbe loba”, again I say “Agbe loba”

The produces of the farm serves as raw materials
“Agbe loba”, again I say “Agbe loba”
For local industries and source of foreign exchange
“Agbe loba”, again I say “Agbe loba”

“Areposafoko” look inward for economic upliftment
“Agbe loba”, again I say “Agbe loba”
Agriculture is a sure way out of the present recession
“Agbe loba”, again I say “Agbe loba”

Key:
“Agbe loba” means “Farmer is the king”
“Areposafoko” means “leaving the farm for oil”

When Man Sleeps

In the wee hours, and in the darkest of the night
On Oyaria’s highway, though not very motorable
At intervals were security personnel, well equipped
Watching over unforeseen circumstances

At strategic locations were sited men in uniform
Who willingly get themselves discomforted
For the safety of the travellers and the citizenry
Even in the wee hours and darkest of the night

Kudos to the men and women in uniform
The symbol of unity of this Federation unit
Devoted, committed and dedicated they are
Though they are not without bad elements

More grace to the elbow of the brave personnel
Strength and power to the distinguished ones
With the support of the government of the day
And the citizenry, they can perform better

Where is the Saint King

Where is the saint king and Paramount ruler of Oyaria?
How about his state of health, is it well with him?
Are the songs on the lips of the citizens and people of Oyaria
Young, old and aged seek for answers, about their leader

For several days running to weeks and months
The saint king is scarcely seen in the market square
Not even in the kingdom's traditional palace
Where weekly customary council meeting holds

The Paramount ruler of Oyaria kingdom
Has all of a sudden become invisible
In factually all public functions, in and out of the palace
Though most times duly represented by high chiefs

The chiefs, royal guards and the palace maids
Maintained a sealed lips, on the state of health
Of the number one monarch of Oyaria kingdom
As against the culture and tradition of the land

Alas! Concerned citizens home and abroad
Are anxious to behold or know more about the king
And gained insight on how the Paramount ruler is faring
Above all, see him carrying out his traditional duties

To the handlers and the care givers of the monarch
The great throne and it occupant belong to the kingdom
Royal guards and palace maids, spit it out at once
For the progress of the kingdom and the people

Purity of Vulture

Ridding to power with self acclaimed integrity
Revitalization of economy, combating insecurity
And fight against corruption top the party’s agenda
Purity of a scavenging vulture

I will jail treasury looters, said the saint king
But some palace chiefs are full of blemish
Tell the monarch, charity begins at home
Purity of a scavenging vulture

Even in the era of change
Fellowshipping with the ruling party
Automatically turned a presumed sinner to saint
Purity of a scavenging vulture

The legislative arm promised transparency
Amidst padding, abuse of trust and other vices
Supremacy fight with executive arm
Purity of a scavenging vulture

Temple of justice: the hope of a common man
But officials of the sanctuary are not without price
The blindfolds of justice have been uncover
Purity of a scavenging vulture

Come Seeing

Bartimaeus was not the only blind man
In Jericho of old, when Jesus was passing by
But he did cried for divine intervention
And he came seeing

Ten were the Lepers, who craved for healing
Master have mercy on us, the echoed
Only one returned with a heart of appreciation
And he came completely whole

A man born blind encountered the son of man
Go wash in the pool of Siloam he heard
He did washed as he was instructed
And he came seeing

Just like the blind Bartimaeus of old,
The thankful Leper and the man born blind
I have come to the greatest physician
Make me come seeing

Helplessly in Love
The kingdom of Areposafoko, the great Is deeply in romantic relationship The land is lost in the depth of affection Emotionally bounded, physical subdued Almost to a point of no return
The domain has willingly let go her strength The rapists delighted in manipulating her Areposafoko is at the mercy of the few minority Perpetually raped and harassed at will By the destructive gladiators
The populace are polarize beyond amend Divided along religion lines and ethnicity Some for Paul, another for Silas Enmity reigns supreme within the people Courtesy of their die hard rapists
Who will liberate the people of Areposafoko? From the self-centered wolves in sheep’s clothing Help for the victims of poor governance! Only if the masses can unite & take ‘action' For the power of united people is mighty
Areposafoko is the most populous black nation

Let it Rain

Dark the sky, cloudy the firmament
Cool the tune of the breeze around
The sun is far away from sight
The Earth quakes for a down pour
Let it rain, let it rain

The sun with it fierceness shone
In the days preceding the cloudy day
The earth with its vegetation is thirsty
For revitalising fluid from the hills
Let it rain, let it rain

Come and refresh the living
All is made ready for your visitation
Accomplishing thunder will not assail us
Empty the heavens on surface earth
Let it rain, let it rain

Tarry not thou descending waters
Quicken the dying, strengthen the weak
Satisfaction for the faint hearted
Hail it down, all are desirous of you
Let it rain, let it rain
